I would like some recommendations on folding trailers to carry a GW. It would be used for long distance hauling.

Kendon's are pretty awesome... I bought one for my dad's wing and he hauled it from Michigan to Tennessee, and back, this past fall and it pulled like a dream. We had a small carport to store all the bikes under and he was able to fold the trailer and store it under there too without taking up room for the bikes. They are very easy to fold and manuever with one person.

You can find them on Craisglist every so often for even better deals. I bought his there for about 60% off the new price, and the trailer is like new. :)

Here's one with a wing on it... (not my pic):

I have a Kendon single rail trailer and pull it with my small Toyota Matrix. Easy to store and can handle all my motorcycles, including the wing. One of the best purchases that I have made.

I've had my fold up Kendo trailer for about 8 years

My neighbor had one of the smaller Kendons for sale. I thought about buying it until I rode the 'wing up on it. The lack of floor on the sides made guiding the bike up a very hairy experience. To easy to tip over. I passed on it.

I had a single rail Kendon for a while, gave it to my brother-in-law when I stopped trailering and started just riding the bike to places. It was a breeze to fold up and store in the corner of the garage. Loading the bike was a two person operation, because you could not safely ride up since there were no stable footholds. But, pushed onto the trailer by two folks (wife and I, usually), it was easy to load and very stable on the trailer. I had the front wheel lock, which would hold the bike while I tied it down, once the wheel was in it. I pulled a Road King and a BMW R1200RT on it before I gave it away. It was very easy to tow. If I ever need to tow a MC again, I would recommend Kendon.

Just an FYI on this point...

This was an issue I considered when I was getting my dad his trailer, and here's what I've found:

Kendon's newest generation has fixed this issue. They have provided a removable and storable platform for loading:

If you look at the video below... you'll also see it in action. Heck... even a rider of the "female" persuasion can do it on her own.

Lastly... if you have an older model (2003+), or can get a good deal on one... then you can actually add the new platform to yours:

Single Ride-Up SRL Trailer Retrofit Kit

Kendon's New Single Ride-Up SRL Trailer Retrofit Kit offers a simple upgrade to the latest Single Ride-Up SRL technology. The Single Ride-Up SRL trailer expands on the standard single rail motorcycle trailer offering an easy loading solution for everything from lightweight sport bikes to heavyweight touring bikes. The Single Ride-Up SRL combines ride-up convenience with a lightweight, user-friendly design

the new kendon should be fine with the floor boards. I have a 1999 and it is ok for a 600 # bike but a bit scary putting the wing on it. it's a tight fit. also the 99 has no tongue weight with the wing. I added 30#'s to make it tow right. other than that it's great for storage.

I've got a "Rocket"

more info here:

I used it to haul a "Ural" (tourist model with a side car) out to Colorado and back from Florida.
.. I packed all our camping gear around it too..it was loaded.. towed great with a four cylinder Ford Escape.

The previous owner actually hauled TWO Goldwings on it (an emergency) from Bryson City back to Florida, but I would not recommend that.

Mine looks like this one:

i don't use it much anymore since I sold the Ural...

It's stored in my hangar.

I agree! I had one and towing you have no idea that it's back there. I was on the way to Las Vegas from Reno and was not paying any attention when I looked at the speedometer I was doing 90 looked and yes the trailer was still back there. Money got tight had to sell it, Dumbest thing I ever did besides the 90MPH thing

I have a Kendon 2 rail and though it's a great trailer, it's not a great Wing trailer. It can be hair raising to load the bike and since my wife rides a big cruiser, it's almost impossible to get them on and travel safely. It's just too small. Now if you're only taking the wing, I'd have no issue putting it on a Kendon single rail.

What would the tongue weight be for the Kendon (or similar trailer) with the Goldwing loaded?

I'm wondering if I could simply install a trailer ball in the knock-out on the bumper of my Toyota Tacoma.

Seems like the tongue weight couldn't possibly be more than 100lbs and the bumper would hold it just fine. What do you think?

I don't know about the Toyota but some similarly equipped truckownrs' manuals address the issue.

On any trailer, usually the maximum tongue weight allowed is 10% of the Gross Weight being towed for the trailer to be balanced properly. I looked on kendonusa.com, but I couldn't find the weight of the trailer. I'm assuming it's about 500 lbs; plus the 900 lb weight of the Wing - that would give us 1400 lbs total.

10% x 1400 lbs = 140 lbs tongue weight

So, my "ball park" math tells me that the maximum tongue weight it could possibly be is 140 lbs, but it could be less than that depending on how the motorcycle is positioned.

I was just wondering if those with actual experience with this trailer happen to know what the actual tongue weight is, while carrying a Goldwing motorcycle.
