I have had the Taka for about a year now and I am happy with it. It does very well for me & the Mrs for wind protection. I can look over like I like to do and has held up very well. My only complain is the included black backer which I didn't like...scratches the shield if anything like bugs or dirt get behind it. I removed it and used spray on window tint to cover the same area and hide the dash trim underneath.

Would I buy again....yes...love the looks and the protection it offers.

Just did a 6600 Mile trip with mine.
The wife & I loved it. Took away a lot of buffeting.
Does not shed the rain as I hoped, not much different than stock in that regard.
Originally I had a stock Honda Windshield with the Vent.
On the Taka I went with NO Vent. Makes it much easier to clean the dash panel, and I rarely used the vent anyway.

I'm using a Taka Long Rider -2, no vent, light tint.
I look over it by 2-3 inches.
I think the black backing looks good, and holds the shield tight, but it doesn't slide well if I want to raise or lower the shield (which I really don't).
Without the black thing it slides a bit.

I think the scoop at the top directs air up and over real well. This is a good feature...works well with Tulsa hand wings.

You have to be real careful with cleaning. It will scratch if you look at it wrong.

For $159 I may buy one with a vent. If I wanted to kick in twice that much I'd go for an F4 -2.
(F4 has a Taka-style shield for HD, but not for GW's. A shame.)

Previous shields used on this bike were:
1.Stock
2.Clearview
3.Stock
4.V-Stream
5.Stock
(Having no passenger to complain about wind, I have no problem with the stock shield combined with Tulsa hand wings. I just can't leave things as they are.)

Same results here including the scratches. Had OEM prior.

I was on there web site today, and saw no mention on what size was available. Last time I looked there where a couple of different sizes you could order. I have been dragging my feet on ordering one, so today I went to order one and saw no sizes available just the price. I will have to give them a call and find out.

Taka

I've got a short Taka tinted windshield. Tint seems dark, but I look over the windshield, so it's fine. I also removed the black plastic backing and put a strip on velcro (soft side) along the top of dash to make windshield tighter. Also went without the vent, to me a much cleaner look. Had a V-stream before

I'm starting to think there's a problem with my tightening assembly.
I have always had soft-side velcro across the inside but without the black piece the Taka shield shifts with the levers down.
Maybe I'll pull it apart tonight.

Is anyone using the Taka windshield? Thoughts? And what did you have before the Taka?
I just sold a stock height, tinted Taka. I thought it worked quite well but I didn't like the light tint and I wanted more of a breeze around me without buffeting so I bought the tall, clear Kock Werks shield, so far I'm liking it pretty much, it sort of reminds me of the airflow the Road Glide Ultra has around me. I think I have had all the other shields at one time or another, the +4 type of barn door windshield give the best of everything except there quite large, ugly, hot and who wants to look through one but if your looking for the best protection maybe its the ticket. I think the Madstad works well once you arrive at the correct size but I didn't care for the look after awhile.

I've read quite a few reviews of this windshield on different GL1800 sites and also vendor sites and one comment seems to come up quite often.....Scratches Easily :crying:

I am sorry to say hat I do not have a Taka shield but if/when I replace the stock, this will be the one. I had a Long Ride Shield on my Harley and it was great. The flip on the top really pushes that air up. It came as low as I think was my chin and the air was just above the sun visor on my helmet. Very little to no buffeting. Anything that was left was coming from under the fairing and the fairing wings took care of that. Great company to do business with too

TAKA Install Problem

I have a 2008.

I can't get my new TAKA shield to go up far enough to trip the ratchet mechanism that will then let it go down. Even before I re-assemble the nose fairing garnish.

Yet, the stock shield works up and down, maybe with a little grab on the way up, always did. Re-installed the stock shield to check, and it works as usual. But I have been looking forward to using the TAKA shield I just got.

Has anyone had to replace the 1/4" vertical tape on where the inside of the windshield lays the because it didn't allow smooth sliding? I replaced the tape at the top of the mount that goes horizontal with plastic electrical tape, smooth or smoother than the OEM tape that I removed.

Ideas???

I've had a standard height TAKA shield (no vent) on my bike since spring. I didn't have any problems with the install and the shield adjusts properly, although a more robust tug is necessary. The installation was simple following the included directions and using the supplied parts. The shield cleans easily with lemon pledge and a microfiber towel. I haven't notice a scratch tendency different than an OEM shield. I like the looks of the shield and the turbulent/buffeting free zone is great. For the price - the TAKA shield has been a great value and I have no problem recommending the shield.

I have a standard Taka shield that is light tint with a vent. I ride with it in full down position and have never tried to adjust it. The missus is much more comfortable than with the stock shield, especially at speeds over 70 mph. It greatly decreases buffeting for her. This is on a 2008 GL1800 Champion conversion.

Also, what kind of silicone spray would be good to put on the black inner windshield stiffener?

I use the fuzzy side of velcro to replace the tape you're referring to. Has worked well with all windshields. I have a feeling that electrical tape may not stick for too long.

I hadn't considered silicone spray on the black TAKA piece, since it's really heavy cardboard, or something similar. I have a problem sliding the shield with it on. I kept it because it looks good. Don't really care about the sliding, since I leave the shield in one spot.
When I did move it to the top it ratcheted as it should.

The TAKA's a strange animal. You may have to break a couple of installation rules with it, but I find it worth it.

I'll try the Velcro. Any other tips anyone?

I just installed my Taka yesterday. I used the grip plate and had trouble getting the shield to move. Tore it all apart, removed the old tape. Lacquer thinner and a razor blade! Then siliconed the plastic well. I reassembled using the grip plate, and it is better. Once we get it where we want it, I'll probably not move it. I went with a light tint, stock height shield, hope the wife likes it!
