I just bought my first J&M headset. It's not going to be fast or easy to install the headset on this new 3/4 HJC FG Jet helmet.. I'm going to have to cut the plastic trim on the helmet in order to have a place to clamp the headset. Also, it's going to be tough to squeeze the microphone boom between the shell and the Styrofoam. Unless you have personally wrestled with one of the newer HJC helmets this is kind of hard to describe. I just needed to take a break and vent for a minute thanks for reading.

What model of JM's? I don't believe you have to cut anything to get the clamp on, just make sure the 2 small screws are turned almost all the way out(don't lose the nuts)!!. I've had the JM's on 2 different HJC helmets and didn't have to cut anything.YMMV

I am using the J&M headsets in my 3/4 helmets, and I did not have to put the microphone boom between the styopfoam and shell, it will go between the shell and ear cushion foam. I think my direction said to use wooden sticks to push the wires in between the foam and shell or the right speaker.

I mushed the styrofoam in the area of where the mic gets mounted, I only cut the styro where the speakers get installed.
I've a done a dozen helmets using J&M, they all need some sort of cutting & squeeking, take your time study the install & you'll get done..

OK, the big rectangle piece of plastic on the mic boom will go inside of the open end of the plastic part (by your middle finger in the photo) that clamps on the helmet. It will be a tight fit, but it is designed to go inside of it. And the clamp should work if it is attached snug against the back edge of the plastic part on the helmet under the wording ALWAYS.
But is this positions the mic to far back from your mouth, hopefully someone else will be able to help you better. :grin2:

I would either fabricate a small shim, and/or plate, that would work in contunction with the existing clamp on the head set to mate it to the helmet decently, ,,... or contact J&M. That's a little chunk of change for a head set... and/or cutting a helmet that's a little chunk of change. Something isn't right... aren't these supposed to retro fit?

maybe you can bring your helmet to a shop that installs headsets and they can give you a few pointers first and a price if they install. Just a thought

Done! Thank you all for the tips. After much thought, I got the Dremmel tool out. From the black helmet trim, I cut and removed one section the width of the headset mounting bracket and another for the boom. This was necessary in order to squeeze the thick boom and othe wires between the outter shell and the inner removable shell that is held in place by one small screw. Thanks Dodge!
