Riding to Branson Wednesday I was scanning stations on the FM dial and heard In-A-Godda-Da-Vida. I cranked up those fire breathing speakers and enjoyed the drum solo.

My first thought was the DJ got pulled for some reason and management wanted to have a long talk with him, or, he had to go to the bathroom something fierce.

June 1969, sitting on the back door of my 65' Nova wagon in the parking lot of Torrey Pines State Park in California watching the sunset. This song came on the radio and I felt the most moving experience of my life.

Or, it could have been something I recently inhaled. :p

Had a similar experience a couple weeks ago riding down route 7 in northern arkansas... 9:30 at night and stairway to heaven came up on the ipod... followed by "gimme shelter" and a few other like that.. for once the thing seemed to understand what music was required for the situation...

LOL :D Same time frame for me, I'm in my girlfiends house and she pulls out this 'new' album, puts it on her record player and says the whole side of this LP is ONE song. Man what a great song. I'm sittin there thinking, "now if she would just take off her clothes, this would be a great day . . .
Well, I enjoyed the song anyway :?

Actually according to one of the guys in the group that I knew, The reason it ended up with the title it did was they were so stoned in the studio the lead singer couldn't say In the garden of Eden. Simple as that if he wasn't playin with me.

Ahhh, I remember back in '84 or so, going "in-service" on day-shift working the Marin CHP office. Jumped in the Mustang and headed up Hwy 1 outa Mill Valley towards Stinson Beach WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN the "long version" began to play on 97.3 - KRXQ. Listening to the tunes, checkin' out the scenery (Pacific ocean, Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin County hills), shifting the 5-speed manual tranny hooked up to the 5 liter engine...made for a great start of the day !

Was on boot liberty from Glakes NTC in '69. Took a bus to Lake Geneva Wisconsin for an Iron Butterfly concert. They played a 45 minute version of In-a-gadda-da-vida..woulda gone longer but one of the amps blew. Wasn't especially a fan of that kinda music, but the concert was free, and with an income of $103/month, that was important.

Ride long and safe..listening to your kinda music...mine is a strange mix.

One of the guys we ride with was in California at that time and was playing bass in a band. They were playing at a club one night as the front band for a group called Iron Butterfly. After their set, Iron Butterfly came up to him and said they were doing a new song tonight and their bass player was stoned - out cold - in the dressing room and wondered if he could play bass for them. They said the bass line was pretty simple, and all he had to do was repeat it for 45 minutes. So to make a long story short, he played with Iron Butterfly the first time they played the song live. I know him well and he would not make a tale up about this.

Iron Butterfly

I imagine the station was 93.7 they say they have the largest selection of classic rock in the area and at half past every hour they play 3 "seldom heard album cuts". Lots of times they take requests and get some real intresting old songs requested. I have the full version on the IPOD.
