I've searched the Wingstuff website and all I'm getting is spoiler lights, etc. I'm looking for a light I can put IN the trunk. I park in a garage that is poorly lit thus, always dark. I can get some 12v LED's from local sources, but I'd want a switch that only comes on when the trunk is open.

anyone done anything like this before... has to be someone... Bueller?

This is an easy way to install a light, does a great job of lighting up the trunks, just stick it to a lid.

PROBLEM IS WHEN STUCK TO LID WHEN YOU OPEN IT IT SHINES IN "YOUR " EYES NOT INTO TRUNK . SOMEONE WILL CHIME IN ( OR CHECK WITH LEWIS AT ELECTRICAL CONN) FOR A SWITCH. BEST I FOUND IS GETTING LEDS AND RUN THEM AROUND " INSIDE " OF TRUNK BASE AND SHINES IN AND LITES UP GREAT. I HAVE SWITCH I MOUNTED TO MY AUX PLUG . WORKS FOR ME :wink2: GOOD LUCK

I toyed with a couple of ideas for mine, first I thought I would add a USB utility plug in the trunk and then take a repurposed goose neck LED reading light and just plug it in when I needed it, but changed my mind and took a small 4" long LED bar I had left over and mounted it on the trunk lid, it is on a bracket and I can swivel it up and down to point it where I need it. Wired it into the red plug behind the top trunk liner and set it up with a mercury switch so it comes on when I open the trunk and goes off when I close trunk lid.

I'm going to regret this but here goes. I purchase the 12vdc self stick light strips from ebay. 16ft for about $10.00. I wire a switch into the trunk lid as a master on/off and use some magical smoke to wire to the trunk latch safety switches. The lights are mounted to the underside of the trunk rim. Under normal operation the lights come on when the trunk in opened. If I want to turn the off I just flip the switch. Power is drawn from the power feed in the trunk lid.
The magic smoke I use to switch the lights on draws less power than of one instrument light.

This setup worked very well on my 2006 and I am now doing the same to my 2017.

Great ideas above. I purchased the factory Honda trunk light + wiring harness when I purchased my bike, so I have the trunk light, but I don't use it much.

I have the same problem as the OP in the garage - it was poorly lit. I purchased a motion-activated safety light from Home Depot and just painted/taped over the photocell (so the light would operate day or night) and mounted it on the ceiling in my garage - and just plugged it into an available outlet (using an extension cord until I hard-wired them in).

Works great. When I'm walking near my bike, the safety light comes on and give me plenty of light. I can ride out of the garage and not worry about turning it off, as it will do it on it's own.

I used this part from my local Ford dealer. Part #bc3z15702b led underhood light for a 2016 Ford F-series super duty. About forty dollars. Works great. Turns on at about halfway up with the truck. Is 12 volt so has to be wired.

I too have a light from Lowes mounted to the top of the trunk, I lower the trunk lid a little if need be, to shine it toward the trunk. Then I keep a flash light handy, have a small light clipped to my jacket, and if I go on an extended trip I put in a light that I can wear on my head, in case I need to do repairs on the side of the road and need my hands to work and not hold a light.

I have the EC light posted by Bartman (post #5), and love it. It lights up the entire inside of the trunk, has a mercury switch so it cannot come on when the trunk is closed and has a master on/off switch for those daytimes when you don't need/want it on. All in a nice neat package.

The only issue is it's cost, $50.00, and the adhesive coming loose in the heat. As to the cost, I'd put one in my next Wing without hesitation. Still don't care for the price. The other, not sticking adhesive, I fixed by accident. I fashioned a "holder" out of a piece of copper wire and 2 ring terminals. While trying to get the copper wire positioned, I noticed the shank of the one ring terminal was actually holding one side of the framework of the LED. I removed the copper wire and positioned the second terminal like the other one. The LED has not moved yet.

I used the stick on white LED strips lights you see at the auto store with the try me button that light from cheap watch batteries contained within. You can cut them to length and stick them under the trunk rim to shine down inside the trunk, really lights up what you need to see, puck lights from the side not so much. I also located a rocker switch at the top rim as well. What concerned me was a malfunction of a switch in the trunk by a load shift or what ever. I liked the little battery pack that came with the try me units, so bought some watch batteries at Harbor Freight to replace the even worse batteries that made up 12 volts. Lights are never on that long and no risk of running ships battery dead. Just an idea, it works for me.

I too, went the cheapy stick on strips from Wal-Mart, but I wired them into the bike and have them all on 1 switch located in the trunk. I can find the switch in the dark with my gloved hand. I have forgotten to turn them off, but they are led’s, they will not kill my battery. 1 switch for all 3 areas.

I used a small 12V cob light from eBay stuck to the inside lid near the latch. When the lid is up the light is pointed down into the trunk. While I had the inner lid off to wire it I also installed a 12V accessory plug in the lid in case I needed to charge a cell phone or something on the road. A switch on the inner lid controls the light. Total cost: $4. The light is very bright.

If you use LED's in your trunk or bags you can wire the + to a switched live wire and the - can be wired to the open bag /trunk warning switches.
There is no need for any other switches as the light will only operate with the key is on and the dash warning will show when the trunk/bag light is on .
Open truck/bag ....light on dash warning on
Close trunk/bag.... light off dash warning off
Key off.... light off
Just find some LED's you like and some light wire and install.

Can you provide info on which wires these are? The open trunk wire and the switched live wire.
This is a great idea that I would like to try.
Thanks
