I’ve had these Bluetooth units for my wife and I (riding 2 up) on a 2018 Goldwing. We both use Modular helmets. I’m wondering if anybody else has experienced excessive wind noise in their speakers from their passengers mic? She keeps the shield closed or slightly cracked. It happens at slow speeds as well as higher freeway speeds. I would give these a 5 with everything else but this issue - I wouldn’t even rate them a one. I’ve tried various setting with little improvement.
Thanks for letting me vent!!

Could be the helmets themselves. Wife and I use Shoei RF1200 FF helmets. On windy days, her mic sometimes creates wind noise in the intercom. Also depends on if she is looking to the left or the right. One of these days I will put the chin curtain in her helmet and see if that makes a difference.

We had the same issue with wind noise, but eliminated it by using the bluetooth intercom instead of the DMC mesh intercom which uses an open mic. The bluetooth intercom only turns on the mic when either the passenger or rider presses the intercom button to initiate a conversation. We don't hit chat while riding so it works great for us.

I have Cardo Freecom 1+ but I think all the mics are the same. When I phone my GF at 60 mph with HJC modular she is convinced I am at home since the sound is so clear. It is possible your passenger has the mic turned backwards.

Heres what Cardo says " If you are using a boom mic, make sure your mic is as close to your mouth as possible. Search for the small yellow triangle near the boom and make sure it faces your mouth. If the issue is noise from wind turbulence, put a larger mic sponge on the mic to help reduce it. The larger sponge is included in your package accessories. "

Riding friend rides with his modular visor full open most all the time. The wind noise he generates causes me to turn him off and he doesn't understand that the horrible wind noise he generates makes it impossible to listen to my music.
Have had some success when mic is first adjusted correctly but it isn't long and he has it out of adjustment and blasting us with wind noise.

Adding a larger wind sock to the microphone will many times resolve this issue. The wind noise filters on the Packtalk Bold are head and shoulders above Sena, so consider yourself lucky. Sena does provide a microphone mute function however. I've discussed the mic mute feature with Cardo multiple times, and they keep promising that it is coming in a future firmware update, but so far it hasn't materialized.

Look for a little yellow triangle on the end of the mic. That needs to be facing your mouth. It's a directional mic.

Thanks for the heads up. I just don’t have another $500 to sink into communication. I have double socked my wife’s mic, played with mic positions and settings. I am hoping they don’t leave the BOLD users high and dry. I would like them to have a mic mute setting as a software upgrade for our model!

Have the same problem I have the rider's turned all the way down on the app, will try the balloon trick and have a new wind sock to put on, sometimes I just turn the intercom off and then she taps me to turn mine on, I have the Packtalk Bold with HJC flip face helmets. I also loose quite a bit of my volume when she turns hers on too

I also don't understand why there is the volume loss when others are added into the group even when they aren't using their mics. The second the additional members shut their unit off or drop out of range the volume level returns to permanently (as long as no one else is connected) higher level.
Volume levels are consistent when I'm riding/traveling solo.

Some folks have reported success in reducing wind noise in microphones by putting a small rubber balloon over the microphone. Sierra Electronics also makes a hard plastic microphone cover that goes over the top of the wind sock. You might try it and see if it helps.

Cardo desperately needs to add the ability to turn the microphone off. Sena already has it. The DMC mesh intercom is pretty much worthless without it.

I have the Cardo Paktalk Bold and the wind noise from my co rider is bad like others have said. The mic is pointed in the correct direction, I have TWO wind socks on it yet is still is unuseable at anything over 25 or 30 MPH. I'd love to have a hard wired set up like my '06 wing had. I'll try the balloon trick.

I only get the wind noise from other connected users cutting off the music or making the horrendous buffering noise when the mics are turned wrong and/or one guy in particular who will ride with his modular helmet chin bar raised when it's hot. Then I have to turn him off. Simply requesting the passenger (wife) to close her visor or adjust the mic solves that issue.
What I don't understand is regardless of who or how many others are "connected" why the music runs at a noticeably lower volume than when I ride solo.

FYI, I just received info from Cardo today that they are preparing a new firmware release for the PackTalk that will add a Microphone Mute feature to it, and that it should be out in the next few weeks. It will apply only to DMC capable products. So I would assume that to mean that the mic mute function will only work in the DMC mode.
