Is anyone here towing a Unigo trailer?
I am looking to purchase a Unigo. My 2018 came with this hitch, and this ball. What kind of a receiver will I need? What kind of wiring harness will I need? Is the harness a difficult install? Can I do it, or should I let a shop do it?

That is completely different from my 2012 with a vertical Bushtec hitch. Vertical of my hitch is straight vertical and not at an angle. I don't see a pinch bolt on yours either. Definitely need that so there is NO slop. Might be it is there and hidden from view.
I searched Unigo trailers in Florida and Texas and saw nothing for a 2018. I thought someone on this forum had a Unigo with the new gen Wing so i don't know how they did it.
Hopefully they will come on and know the answers for you.

The owner of Unigo is unigoskip@gmail.com
They don't seem to ever answer any phone number but skip answered my e-mail pretty fast last week.

I pull a Unigo with my 2018. I have a bushtec hitch that uses the vertical hitch receiver. Pic 1. Yours looks like the receiver needs to be at an angle. They make an adapter that replaces the ball. See pic 2. Remove the ball off your receiver. The place in Texas is great to deal with.
I have the Electrical Connection trailer Isolator kit with a 5 flat wiring connector. The Unigo came with a 7 pin flat connector. Mine is a New Zealand made model and maybe that is common down there. I removed it and went with the 5 pin.
We love this trailer.

Thanks for the reply, it's a great help. Did you wire the harness in by yourself?

If your bike has a hitch now it probably has a trailer harness. In that case, easy enough to make the plugs compatible. Biggest question might be if the current bike harness is four, five or maybe six wire.

If you need a harness, you can check the super secret Inventor's Hobby Shop forum and see the one built be Steve Kowalaki, M61A1MECH.

I wired my 2012 myself. The harness I got from Texas Motorcycle Trailers plus came with good instructions.
My bike was wired for a different trailer also. It was easier to replace the harness rather than modify the existing one.
That way there was no cutting and splicing involved.

I pulled a Uni Go with my 2003..it was one of the first N.Z. made units..Some of the N.Z. made Uni Go had some issues that needs to be addressed. The American made Uni Go had those issues fixed.

I wrote about my experiences with my N.Z. made Uni Go and the issues I had and how I fixed it years ago if anyone is interested and does a search...The most important thing with the Uni Go is you got to get the connection point between the Uni Go and the hitch as stiff as possible. The Bushtec hitch adapter after all these years is still very flexy at the 90 degree bend dispite being made from 1/2" steel flatbar.. The adapter needs to be reinforced to remove the flex at the connection point with the hitch..and also it should be as close to the rear fender as possible...example with the 01 to 10 models the distance was right..but with 12 to 17 models the Bushtec adaper is too long and could be shortened 1.25 inchs or so I can't quite remember now..but the point is the adaptor was too long for those models because Bushtec wasn't putting any thought into it...they are just welding up the adapter and selling it..with the 2018 plus model I haven't looked into it it but going by my Rivco hitch you would want the adaptor to be the same length....but getting back to what Bushtec is selling....reinforcing that Bushtec adapter makes a very noticable improvement with the stability of the Uni Go, especally at higher speeds.... that other adapter pictured above that bolts on to the hitch where the ball mounts, looks much too thin...and being it's only connected with one bolt, my concern would be it twisting under load and loosing after awhile. I think the best option for the connection point to the hitch is a Bushtec type adapter, but modified to remove the flex at the 90 degree bend of the adapter.

That Bushtec adaptor is so long..definitely for a 12 to 17 model and could be shorten to bring the connection point closer to the rear fender...the flex at the 90 degree bend that I was talking about is not front to back..its side to side..unlike a two wheel trailer, a single wheel trailer will put twisting loads at the hitches connection point...with the Uni Go attached to the bike and the bike on its side stand, if you push on the side of Uni Go, the Uni Go and the bike should move together in unison..if it's just the Uni Go moving while the bike stays still, there is too much flex at the connection point of the hitch...flex at the connection point can cause the Uni Go to have stability issues at higher speeds.

Lot's of great info on here regarding the adapter and flex, my used Unigo came with the tongue & adapter in this pic, I'm not sure if it's made by Unigo or the prior owner made it but it seems quite solid. I tried one of those thin black ones on our prior 2016 Wing and agree it had too much flex in it.

I used a Rivco hitch with a custom welded horizontal adapter on our 2001 GL and had no problems. Even survived a 65mph crash.

I used cheap (kury?) hitch that bolts to the luggage subframe / crashbars with a homemade ball adapter. Attaching to the ball hole worked fine until backing up. It would twist Changed to the Unigo vertical adapter and had no problems.

FWIW, used the same cheap hitch to tow our Aspen classic all over the west and no issues.

Now. On our 6th gen Goldwing Using a Bushtec hitch with the same Unigo vertical adapter, towed it 4,000 miles last summer. No issues.

The vertical tube on the Unigo adapter is slightly larger than the vertical hole on the Bushtec hitch. Bushtec would like you to buy their Unigo adapter. A few minutes with my angle grinder and some rustoleum paint and my original adapter fit.

Tried towing the Unigo with our BMW R1200GS, can't remember the brand of hitch, with the ball adapter. It was scary. The hitch would flex at a simple lane change and the trailer would oscillate. The tail (trailer) wagged the dog (BMW).

I am very happy with our 2018 wing, Bushtec hitch, Unigo vertical adapter setup. Planning on an Alaska trip with it this summer.

Here is a scan of the wiring colors. Somewhere I made a diagram that showed the Honda to Electrical Connections to Unigo wiring. I am looking for it. FWIW I have no interior light or power outlet. Only wired the lights. Left turn, Right Turn, Brake, Tail, Ground. 5 connections.

Thanks to all the help on this site I got the trailer wired up last weekend, and everything works as it should. Now I just need to "clean up" my wiring. I ordered some Wego connectors and will spend next weekend shortening the cables for a cleaner install.

One of the items I purchased from Electrical Connections that I did NOT need was the 5 to 4 pin converter. If anyone needs one send me a PM. It's new and never installed.
