I am in the process of negotiating a deal on a 2019 airbag dct Goldwing Tour. The mileage on the bike is extremely low. It is still covered under the original warranty until July of 2023. I can purchase an extended warranty from Honda for 5 yrs at $710.00. That will cover everything that is in the original 3 yr. factory warranty. My other option is a warranty offered by an independent company that covers everything on the bike including all electrical items ( Radio, navigation, etc.) and road service. The cost of that warranty is $1500 for five years. The question is, have owners of the 2018 had issues that would warrant the extra cost? Your thoughts are appreciated.

If you want an extended warranty......
Stick with the Honda OEM extended warranty........$710 is a great price (Blue Ridge Power Sports pricing).
Honda is a huge company with a lot of depth, a company that will be around "forever".

Independent companies are sketchy at best......You never know what will be actually covered or if a Honda dealership is willing to do the work for payment from such a company.
These companies need to survive by the contracts alone, that tells you something. Who knows if they will be in operation when you actually need them?.....do they use Honda OEM parts?

JMHO...

I buy the Honda Protection Plan. I had the HPP on my 2006 and it paid off for me. I negotiated it with the purchase of my 2017. I don't bother with electronics and other stuff usually, but I think it's a good thing for Gold Wings so I recommend it.

On my 2006 the NAVI display started getting dead pixels. That replacement alone more than covered the cost of the HPP. I also had left and right handlebar clusters replaced because of sticky buttons. Yes, I could have cleaned them up but why not just get new ones? Paid off for me.

No, it does not cover everything in the original 3 yr warranty. If the salesman told you it does, you were lied to.

You better download a brochure so you know what you're buying. If you are NOT a Fla resident, click the link in the last line of the first paragraph. If you are a Fla resident, click the appropriate link for that.

You definitely have to see what the aftermarket warranty actually covers. Repair and replace with GENUINE Honda parts?? What sort of deductible is involved? What is the maximum payout for repairs? What happens if the repair facility does not accept their payment time frame, do you pay up front and hope they reimburse you?
If you look at all the extended warranties offered for other vehicles, you will see some of them no longer exist and your money is gone.
At least Honda tells you in black and white what is covered and what is not covered.

If ever there was a no-brainer, this is it. Stick with HONDA. Period. End of discussion.

From the brochure "HondaCare Coverage offers the same features and benefits as your original new vehicle warranty." Engine, Drive system, Fuel system, Brake system, Electrical and Chassis. Excludes "Tires, Batteries, Audio and Navigation Equipment and Accessories, and Regular Required and Expendable using only new genuine Honda Parts;
That sounds like everything except the Audio and Navigation system, am I wrong?

I asked my local dealer about the audio/nav/headlight system exclusion. (By the way $710 is good price, take it).

As the sales Mgr had the same policy, he called up corporate to verify after I showed him the contract wording. Honda said if it came with the bike from the factory then it was covered. The aftermarket items weren't. Unfortunately that appears to also include the cb system as it doesn't come from the factory 😕.

You are not wrong. That is exactly what Honda states in the contract. If the audio or navigation craps out then you, not Honda will pick up the cost to repair it.

I'd suggest if the sales manager is telling you this, then have him put it in writing that the if Honda extended warranty doesn't cover everything that came on the bike from the factory, that the dealership will. Because he's telling you BS. It clearly states in the extended Honda warranty the Nav and audio system isn't covered.

Let’s resume the discussion… I highly recommend that you do not buy the extended warranty. I did a survey here about a year ago which showed that the majority of people who bought the extended warranty never used it. Those who did use it, including me, the repair cost less than the extended warranty, therefore money lost. Very few got their money’s worth out of the warranty.

This is a very well-built motorcycle. The probability of you needing expensive work done on it within the extended warranty time is extremely low. How long will you keep the bike? The original owner did not keep it very long. How do you know that you will?

I speak from experience owning two Goldwings, and what many here have experienced. My wife’s 2006 Goldwing has never needed any repair work. My bike, a 2008, required front wheel bearings replaced, which cost less than what the extended warranty cost me.

If you decide to buy one, just realize that it is highly unlikely that you will use it.

Well, here is my 2 cents.
I bought the extended warranty (not the Honda warranty) on my 2005 and had the engine removed twice. (yes 2 times). Plus they replaced the steering bearings with All Balls tapered bearings when I complained about them. For the $600 I paid for it, it saved me thousands of dollars. Being said, I also bought the extended warranty on my 2018 Tour DCT. Why? Because all of the electronics on that bike were new and no one knew what would happen to them in a few years down the road.
The Honda extended warranty, "we are told" covers everything the factory warranty covers. That isn't what it says in the warranty!
One thing that Honda does not cover is gaskets and seals. They call them "Expendable Maintenance Items". They can cover them if a repair of the engine is made, but if a gasket or seal is leaking by itself, they may not cover it. You should check with your dealer and read what the warranty covers, it is all in black and white.
I also found that the Honda extended warranty says it does not cover audio and Navigation equipment, people are quick to argue the point.
All I can say is that is what is written in black and white, and that means I could be stuck paying for that myself if Honda was not willing to cover it. Do I want to take that chance?
I do know someone with a Goldwing that has had their navigation screen replaced under the extended warranty, I believe twice. The 2017's have had some failures of those screens. I don't know if they bought the Honda one or not.
I went with Aegis Warranty that is what my Honda dealer sells and they cover these things in their warranty.
Warranty is only insurance. If you feel like you don't need it then you shouldn't get it. Some think it is a waste of money. $700.00 is not a bad price for a Honda warranty. One trip to the shop for a problem could cost you that easily these days. Good Luck.

Sure wish you could read the coverage details with the Aegis warranty...but the website is useless...really surprised they don't let you read the details on the website. You can only buy the Aegis warranty from a dealer.
