Hi Geeks,

I have one question for now. I may ask more later on if I get any responses that generate a question in my little mind.

I have had Gerbing's heated gear ( liner vest and gloves only ) since 1991. For several reasons, I am going to replace ALL of it. Wires, connections .....everything. I have decided to go with "Warmnsafe." That's the name of the company. If you type "warm and safe" into your browser, you will get other heated gear sites. Ken Phenix, some of you may be familiar with him, ( the heat guy ) kinda talked me into it the other night on the phone. "Warmnsafe" with the 'n' in the middle of the name.

My setup is a direct connection from the battery with a 15 amp fuse. No heat controller. Mine is just on or off. This powers the vest and gloves and has served me well, 100 % matter of fact, since 1990 on several bikes. The SAME vest, gloves and wires.

I'm getting the inner vest and gloves. That's it.

I've looked at the "warmnsafe" site. Among other things it shows a splitter that, I believe, can also be used for my Deltran trickle charger. ( 5 amps ) ( Also over 30 years old ) My new set-up WILL contain a controller. Ken also told me I pretty much HAVE TO have one with THIS product.

Can I use that splitter with a 15 amp fuse that can double as a connection for the heated gear AND the trickle charger with a 15 amp fuse ?? I need the 15 amp for the heated gear. But, will that 15 amp fuse damage, IN ANY WAY, the trickle charger or the battery ?? And, GOD FORBID, can it damage the bike itself IN ANY WAY ??

Thanks,

Fwiw, I have the Harley version of Gerbing that's probably about 15 years old. I have the heated jacket liner and the G5 gloves. I have an auxiliary two channel controller that clips to my belt or jacket. And I connect to the trickle charger lead with an SAE converter cable. Works great. I will mention that I have never used the gloves as they are so darned thick, you loose all sense of touch. I use thinner leather gloves with Thinsolate that with the heated grips, work fine down to the high 20's.

Gerbing 12V SAE-to-Female Adapter Cable or the Gerbing 12V SAE-to-Male Adapter Cable depending on your set up.

First, You will want a controller for the WnS gear. Running it on full heat will melt you or you will be constantly switching it on and off. I did the on off switch back with my eclipse vest. I was always either hot or cold.

Second. Get the full jacket liner. I used to use a vest. Once you have warm arms in addition to torso you will never go back. Why have cold arms? The jacket will have connectors at the sleeves for the gloves. Easy peasey and no wires running down your sleeves.
Get a dual controller as the gloves will often need to be at a different temperature then the jacket. FWIW, I would probably buy the heated shirt now vs my WnS jacket liners now.

Third.
I use a battery tender adapter on the WnS pigtail. This allows me to use the heated gear pigtail for my battery tender. No issue with the 15-amp fuse in the pigtail. One my other bikes I use the battery tender pigtail with the other WnS adapter. You are not supposed to, but it works fine.

Yes, you can use the warm and safe battery pig tail for both trickle charging when parked and for your heated gear when riding. You will need an adapter as @charleetho stated if going to SAE connector for your trickle charger. Trickle charge amperage will be well under the heated gear fuse limit. Go with what ever size fuse Warm and Safe says to use.

I don't know why I kept saying vest. I keep telling you guys I'm stooopid. And I've shown it again !!! I do have the entire jacket liner. And I agree with you. Ridiculous to have just the vest.

The dual controller for liner and one for gloves. I'll have to think about that. But, thank you !!! The tender pigtail with WnS. ONE pigtail. YES !! That was my question. Thanks !!! This splitter I mention looks like it's made almost specifically for this need. I don't want to have two pigtails running directly off the battery if I don't HAVE TO. It's crowded in there !!

Thanks again Charleetho !!!!

Thank you NavyGator !!! Of course I will go with what WnS recommends. Being as stooopid as I am, I just want to make sure I will not damage the trickle charger, melt a wire, etc.

Thanks again for your thoughts !!!

I would not recommend the Warm-n-Safe stuff wired straight to your battery. It will be too hot, especially if the get the Heated Shirt option. I wear it over my LDC shirt and I still only use it at about 3/4 on my Heat Troller. I also like the Heat Troller for my gloves as I tend to use them when the temps get much below 45 degrees or so. With those ambient temps, the gloves on at 100% will be uncomfortably hot.

I have the Warm and Safe jacket liner and the heated shirt using the duel remote controller...both work very well. For the heated gear connection I just plug into my battery tendor wire with a adaptor shown above.

Keep talking to me Networkguy....................I just assumed ( you know I'm stoopid ) the controller, any controller, will be somewhere between the hard wire to the battery and the garment. Am I missing something ?? 'Cause the hardwire to the battery is a must.

..............talk 2 me.

I must be missing something. I see two wires coming from the battery. I would like a splitter that negates this situation. I plug the heat in when I need it. And I have the splitter plug, already attached, when I'm stopped and trickle charging. What am I missing ??

?????
Straight to the battery is exactly how Warm N Safe instructs the harness to be installed. If it’s too hot then use the controller to turn gloves and/or jacket DOWN to a comfortable amount of heat.

To the OP I suggest the WNS dual wireless controller. Buy once cry once then enjoy fewer wires connecting everything. One harness connection to the battery with a single + and - wire and with an adapter you can plug in your battery tender to charge the battery. It couldn’t be more convenient.

I'll add my 2 cents worth; what they all said, plus I have heated insoles for my boots. They are connected by a split harness which plugs in to the jacket, and is controlled with the same knob which controls the gloves (one knob for the jacket, the other knob for gloves and insoles). It has worked well for me.

Ride Safe,
Jeff

Get the W&S wireless dual control controller. Power comes from the bike battery, but how hot it gets is from the wireless controller. Attach the wireless controller to the master cylinder or anyplace in arms reach with industrial velcro.

Exactly! I have the wired dual controller and hate having the extra wiring and finding a convenient place to mount the controller

The other wire is for my jumper pack..it plugs directly into the jumper pack if I ever have to jump start the bike...both wires tuck nicely up in the frame area when not needed.

I have the heated shirt and the gauntlet gloves. I use the pigtail adapter to connect my battery tender pigtail to the shirt's controller. I control everything with the wireless dual heat controller that I keep in the leather pouch he sells. I mount it on the thing that's behind the windshield using the clip on the leather pouch. Mounting it there allows me access to the two controls for the shirt and the gloves. I adjust as needed and I'm still looking at the road. The clip has held the controller firmly for numerous rides. I don't try to mount the controller anywhere else as that would potentially take my eyes from the road.
I place the pigtail adapter wire and the battery tender wire in the closed rear foot peg. That way I don't have a wire hanging out so much. I haven't gone to the trouble of adding a different connector plug up near the console, but that would be a better solution than what I currently do. Maybe I'll get around to changing that setup, but I've been running this way for two winters with this setup. I'm a happy customer (and I even got the infamous email).
From my perspective, I really like the heated shirt and gauntlet gloves. But, Warm N Safe products are very good. I don't think you'll be disappointed with any of the options.

Here is where I placed mine. I remove itin the warmer months.
