With radio equipped cars, no need to chase at those speeds.
That's 100% false!!! The radio does nothing to stop the guy. If you just let peopel go then every criminal will just run from the cops and never get caught. Crime will resemble some of those places were they follow your suggestion, say........ San Francisco!

I never understood why people would take a traffic violation and turn it into a felony. I get it if you have a felony warrant that will send you to jail for 30 years, but absent that, why run?

I have too agree with you here 100%.........Radio's would be much faster than 150MPH and the police would have caught that rider (and an arrest could have been made/ all / without any damage or danger to any other humans or vehicles, on the roadway. It was highway, NO way for the rider to hide from the police...............NOW what's going to happen is, all were going to hear about is a motorcycle accident (and how dangerous M/Cycle are) and not the fact that this bonehead was travel'nn 100+ mpg and was being chased by police..

I don't think that was his intent when stating that. No need to chase when you have better tools that will be more effective and less dangerous. Use the raido, setup a road block, deploy spike strips, etc. Then use the law to make running 10x more consequential then if he just pulled over. Nothing is fool proof and criminals will be criminals (and often stupid), but we, as a society need to think of better ways to stop these idiots.

Wow, that guy could not ride. He wasn't even leaning.
Right, not to mention ATGATT.
This is what we "old timers" call a SQUID. He certainly learned the hard way...if he learned at all.

The radio is not useful when the perp has a dozen possible exits to take, and a thousand routes from there. You can't radio ahead and have a road block set up at every possible route, you have to follow him and hope to set up a road block at the most likely point. It looked like a bunch of them converged on him right after the accident, so they were working on it.

You can not use spike strips on motorcycles. You can not set up roadblocks except in the movies because the person has to have an avenue of escape instead of dying instantly. The use of deadly force to stop a pursuit is not authorized in most circumstances! People think you can call some magical being on the radio and they will instantly appear and then do what when they get there??? Most departments can not afford a helicopter and even if they can unless it's already in the air, most pursuits are over before they can get there!

I-40 is one of my least favorite slabs. Posted speed is 75 but you have to be 85 to sort of keep up and stay in the right lane. I've been to NASCAR but the fastest thing on wheels that I have ever witnessed passed me on I-40. The road was flat, like being in a boat and not see the shore line. A cage passed me 30 seconds earlier and settled in the right lane, prompting me to add another 5mph; now I'm over 85. No other vehicles in sight. Checking my surroundings, I see a dot in the rearview and in seconds, it caught me, passed and disappeared. I bet over 150 and I was positive that it was going to end badly for that operator and I'd see the result up the road. Crazies giving the community a bad look.

We can't use those techniques because it would be too dangerous to the motorcycle rider. Instead, we chase him at speeds in excess of 120mph hoping that he will not crash and kill himself or others until he runs out of gas or finally decides to stop. That makes a ton of sense.

“Stupid is as stupid does.” And yes, I bet he IS eat-up with road rash! On a side note, not a bad running patrol car.

Agreed. If apprehending this idiot was that important It would have been safer for all if the LEO’s at the intersection simply pass shot him.

I never understood the need for these high speed pursuits.
