I have been searching for "the best oil for gl1800" and I've come across a HUGE variety of opinions, but I want to see if there is a "common" oil being used among all of us.

What oil do you use in your wing?
For those that have used Mobile 1, what version of Mobile 1 oil did you use? High mileage, racing 4t, etc?

I have been using Rotella T6 10 40 oil, I may stick with that but want to hear from you all.

Also I'm really curious, does anyone actually still run the OEM oil from Honda?

edit
Sorry, rotella T6 15 40, had 10 40 on the brain when writing :).

I know that you have a legitimate question - but I've been reading oil threads for 20 years and they're like train wrecks..... ya just can NOT look.

Get whatever is specified in the owner's manual and then use whatever brand makes you sleep better at night.

The "best" oil is the kind I use. Everyone else is wrong.
(See signature line under picture).
It is almost impossible to not read (or reply) to an oil thread. It just pulls you in.

Not another oil thread! Let me get a bag of popcorn.

The best oil is the weight that Honda says put in there. Now you can stroke yourselves with these name brand if you like, but rest assured Honda knows what's best for their product's.

Every brand makes the "weight" viscosity oil that Honda specified (depends on the year of your Wing manual). The only thing really special about "Honda" labeled oil is it's a nice "accessory" for the dealer to sell. I'm sure it's a quality product (whatever version you choose) but it's nothing magical\special.
One of the truly high mile Wings on this forum used non Honda oil and filters very successfully.

I use fleet diesel oil from a major brand…Chevron ,Shell, Mobile …. Not because it’s better but because it’s cheaper and easy to buy and I use it for everything, and it’s good enough for me.
🤣🤣🤣 I RESEMBLE THIS REMARK!!!! LIKE IT A LOT!!!!

The best oil is new freshly changed oil lurking around in a new filter wearing the correct viscosity!

And you thought another oil thread was going to narrow the huge variety of opinions?

I use GN4 10w-40 or the Rotella T6 15w-40.

I have never seen 10-40 Rotella T6 oil
I've never seen any 10w-40 T6 either. North of the border in Ontario they have T6 available in 0w-40 but I've never seen that flavor of Rotella in the US.
