I'm putting on a lower chrome cowl, it's the one from Honda. OK what is the trick, the oem grey one came off easily but the new chrome one is not my friend. Whats the secret to getting this thing on...........

I always started it on by putting the lower outside bolts in first and them trying to line up the two top holes. Remember that there are two different length of bolts. Long ones go in the top and short in the bottom. An Allen wrench on a screwdriver is far easier than trying to use a L shaped Allen wrench or a big bulky multi Allen wrench set. The top plastic plug fasteners will generally line up when you get the bolts in. If you put lights in the cowl it is way harder to get it on with the added weight of the lights.

You might need to enlarge the holes on the chrome cowl at the top clips. For some reason the chrome cowls won't let the clips line up. If the clips won't line up with the hole, the bolts won't go in.

Put a towel or something under your work area , so you don't scratch it up. I lined it up carefully..and worked it up slowly..alternating side to side... oh 'I installed the engine mounted fog lights , it really didn't make it
harder , ... I put the top bolts on first , lined everything up...make sure
the bolt tabs line up behind the big black piece (name escapes me) were you removed the 2 push tabs.
Make sure there are no hoses or wires in the way of where the lower cowl will mount ... I hit the overflow hose, but caught it before I started to force it.
I then installed the push tabs..as they were a little harder to line up , then I did the lower bolts on the side ... wipe off finger prints , enjoy the fruits of your labor.

It's pretty simple and like all things gets easier every time you do it. Just start each bolt, but don't screw it in all the way until all of the bolts are in. It will allow the Cowl to maintain it's flexibility and therefore will be a lot easier to install.

Piece of cake that way.

I just finished installing the Electrical Conndections Fog lights and just re installed the lower cowl. Decided against a chrome cowl. I had my cowl back on in less than 30 minutes once I got started. After removing the cowl, I set up a couple of threaded guides for the two upper middle bolts. Screwed the guides in, placed the cowl in place on the guides, making sure the two outer bolts was behind the fairing. Started the upper-outer bolts, than the lower bolts and installed the upper middle bolts one at a time, always with one guide in place. Worked great

OK, I just had a senior moment. There are three allen head bolts that you remove on each side, two short ones and one long one, along with two push pins. Now I can't remember which goes where. I believe the two short bolts go at the bottom of the cowl and next to the push pin on each side, and the long one goes to the hole with the clip. Now do the tabs with the clip go behind the faring tabs or not. I think I've gotten CRS, be careful it's catching.

Yes, the cowling tabs with the clips go behind the fairing tabs, that is where the longest screws go.

Just finished installing the driving lights - Big Bike. Man that lower cowl is a bugger. Getting the tabs behind the fairing black tabs is a bunch of fun too. Glad it's over and it's too late to and cold to give her a spin. Tomorrow is going to be 70 and I think I will take the afternoon off and go for a ride.
