h7 bulbs

I have an 06 Wing. What is the story with H4 adapter and H7 bulbs? Was there a production change from H4s to H7s thus the adapter? Are they present on the hi beams? If I put in a LED lamp (current 2020 LED models) should I put in a H7 or an H4 replacement LED? Which one will focus...
