I've got an 04' with 17k on the odometer,(1) I've been listening to a tapping noise from the left side most of the year that sounds like cam speed. The first several miles from a cold start the engine sounds perfect, but after that, leaving from a stop and slowly accelerating you hear a somewhat loud tapping(sounds just like a lifter tap)only when rpm is between 1200-2000. You can't recreate by just reving in neutral, you must have a load on the engine, you must be driving.(like your listening to an exhaust leak?)definately sounds metallic.Rarely, the noise won't be there. I've inspected the valve clearance and it's perfect
(2)A deep rap/hammer sound heard best after warmed up, only heard if your neither accellerating or decellerating, just keeping a constant speed or maybe giving just alittle throttle to slowly increase speed, easiest heard in 2,3,or 4th in quiet, smooth areas. That noise isn't very loud, but sounds like a bearing noise. I definitely could be wrong, but concerned
I've got 25 years working in a GM dealership working on all types of noises, including engine and I don't think this sounds normal.
It's been at the Shop for 2 weeks,so I called and there tech says things sound normal,so I asked to talk with him,but he wasn't in today. I went to the Dealership to look and found 4.1 miles on the road test so far
Could anyone else reply of similiar noises they heard on there bikes. They don't have any used bikes there to test drive and compare. I understand noises are tough to describe, but I tried
I'm going there tomorrow if I got time and talk with the tech
thanks......
