I checked all the valve clearances on my 1800 last weekend. All the exhaust valves were .008 which is within spec. The intakes were all .004 except one which was .005. The .005 one is the only one within spec. I guess I will have to plan on having the shims changed. How much does the shim kit cost and is it a big job to do? I would like to do it myself to reduce downtime. The bike has 43,000 miles on it.

There is a good instructional video on cam removal included in the CD version of the service manual. If you know someone who has it, it is worth watching.

I checked mine at 32K and they were all in spec. I will probably be rechecking them again soon as I am now at 42K and climbing. I anticipate having to change at least one shim before I hit 50K.
