I sold my 2001 so maybe they changed but my 2008 are not torx head but instead are definitely 6mm Allen style.

 

Just checked my 2002. That ring uses a T25 Torx at 5.8 lbf-ft

 

If they will not come loose. I would start with a hand held impact driver (one that you smack with a hammer), If its still needed these small bolts are a great candidate for using a soldering iron to heat up the bolt without putting a flame on the rest of the wheel, bearings etc.

 

Really haven’t had much trouble getting the 3 bolts in or out, the only real issue has been I wasn’t sure on the proper Torx bit size to use, now that I’ve been told the proper size is 25 I’m going to buy another bit that hopefully will fit better so I don’t ruin the bolts. It might be worth a stop at Ace hardware to see if they have some that fit better. They are not critical fastener (like caliper or rotor bolts) .
