Looks like I’m going to remove the air box tomorrow and get a better looks the the tps and map sensor wires and that PAIR solenoid. New correct NGK plugs were no different than the old ones. Still fires up and runs like the ignition timing is too far advanced. I am somewhat puzzled about something though. I have been looking for the tps/map sensors but wasn’t locating the tps sensor. I I figured out why that was the case. There is a sensor on top of the filter box to the right. It is marked MAP and is right by a part that has throttle cables coming out of it. Does it have 2 MAP sensors, with the second being below the air box? There is definitely no other similar connector nearby that it could be swapped with. I’m thoroughly confused about it now.
The one near the cruise actuator is the Baro sensor. Honda dropped the ball on its description. The actual map sensor is mounted to the front of the throttle body and the throttle position sensor(TPS) is on the top right side of the throttle body. The difference between the tps sensor and the map sensor is one wire is a different color. Here is the sensor diagram from the ETM. Notice both sensors have three wires and two are the same. The third wire is different and is the key to which connector goes where.

Problem is resolved. It ended up being the power wires to the ignition coils were flipped 1/2-5/6 with 3/4 being correct. Purrs like a kitten now. I’ve still got a couple things to sort out, but they are small issues at this point. Thank to everyone who helped!
I knew you would get it fixed, now enjoy the ride (y)

Sweet! Glad you found it. Replacing the whole harness is a massive job and you could have ended up with a lot more issues.

Glad you found the issue and can now enjoy the ride 👍👍

And mega-credit to the wizard Dr - @techdude2000 he put a lot of time into this...

I was about to start pulling hair out. When I fired it up and it was running smoothly, my mom came out and listened to it for a second and nearly started crying. My dad would have sure loved to hear that thing run

I know how you feel. My Dad passed in 2002 and never got to see my wing or his grand kids, we used to repair nearly everything together until he got sick.

That’s how we were also. It took me 5 months before I felt like I could work on it without being all teary eyed. He really wanted to ride one more time, which is part of why he bought this bike. My brother figured out what he was up to and pretty much stopped offering him any help. He knew dad was gonna hop on that thing if he ever got it done. Dad had told me he knew why Jim wasn’t helping much, so I started helping him more. Through all those years, I’m pretty sure I spent more time with him bumping elbows in that shop than I spent with him inside the house. Good times that ended way too soon.

Well, I got to take it for a little test ride and that thing ran very nicely. I have a couple things to work out. Everything I tried to use does work except I have no lcd display, the small lcd in the lower left corner of gauges does nothing whatsoever, and I have no speedometer function. I believe everything else works, but I didn’t think to try the cruise control or the suspension adjustment.

All of the gauge wiring runs through the connectors under the left fairing pocket, in the white plastic frame. You could have a bad connection there or on the back of the gauges themselves. Did it throw a code and turn on the FI light while you were riding?

You definitely have some great memories with your dad and I'm sure he'll be with you on your first ride. Enjoy

No FI light or code. I’m assuming the speed sensors are working tho because the ABS light goes out at what I guess to be around 6 mph. I guess I need to break out the tester and check continuity through those plugs.

Yes, sounds like your ABS is working correctly. The signal that drives the speedometer doesn’t have anything to do with the ABS system. The ABS uses inputs from the two wheel sensors and the Speedo uses the signal from the speed sensor at the bottom right side of the engine.

I had seen there were three sensors and wondered why the third was there. I’m going to assume the one on the bottom right side is the normal one and abs models add the front and rear wheel sensors. Hoping to get a break in the weather this evening and get the time to start testing those connections this evening. Been so busy with work and home life I’ve not been able to mess with it. I’ve really spent some time looking at the wiring diagrams and suspect that more than one connection is at fault. With all the gauges working except the speedometer, no clock, and no lcd, I can’t see one wire in the diagrams that could cause all three issues but nothing more.

Update:
After testing and even trying a different wiring harness, I elected to purchase a complete, new oem combination meter. It was supposed to be here today, but FedEx. I did order everything needed to complete the bike, including a new vented windshield. I am not a parts changer type, due to a normally limited budget, but failing to see anything test incorrectly at the combination meter connectors, I elected that there must be something wrong with the combination meter itself. Even though the lcd did power up once after the harness was replaced, I am going to believe that the high level of mouse damage in the main harness probably shorted/powered some feed wires and ruined the combination meter. We never tried to power the bike up until the entire harness was replaced, but I would suppose the original owner did, which is how they discovered the harness was destroyed. Hopefully I didn’t just waste $400 for the new one. But I’ll update again with the results.

Final update if anyone has interest in the resolution of the combination meter not having lcd, speedometer, oil light, lcd clock, and backlighting. I ordered a new replacement and it did resolve my issues. Another FYI, the mileage is stored somewhere within the combination meter and not the ecu. Since this was a new meter, it displays 0 miles. Thank everyone who helped me along. I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the update. Glad you got her straightened out. Sorry it was an expensive fix. Your Dad is smiling down on you. Just a note. The mileage is stored in the ECU that drives the display, which you found out. The engine ECM doesn’t store it like some folks think. In the past, Honda dealers would order a new set of gauges and somehow transferred the mileage numbers from the old assembly or they ordered it from Honda with it preset. I don’t remember how they did it.
