Don't tell motorcyclemomma, or Shelia will have to do 35K. Anyone heard how she is doing on her quest for 100k in a year?

BLKO4WNG, Don't start, or this thread will end up on the H v. H board. :D

IIRC, the record of 31,000 miles was set by an a 60 something guy on a Electra Glide a couple of years ago.

You do recall correctly, a HD Electraglide and an ST1300 have been the only bikes to break 30K in 30 days. The guy from NC would be the first on a wing.

The ST1300 didnt come out until 2003. The ST1100 that broke the record was 9/1999. He finished with 30,279
The HD was the last one to complete it in 7/2001 about 5 years ago. His mileage was 30,603

Perhaps that it why he is shooting for a 32K record miles. I have looked but I couldnt find him as ever doing a IB ride other than a trip he said he took to Canada and back that was around 2K. He should have been listed as a finisher unless his first 1000 miles is going to serve as his first certified ride/

How is the mileage accuracy kept on something like this? It can't be the bike odometer. Do they use a GPS to plot the course and verify each stop?

Good Luck

While I wish him all the best and that he raises awareness and funds, it's going to be a tough assignment. I don't think he's covering enough miles per day. At just over 1000 he leaves himself no room for problems. If he'd put in even an extra 100 per day he could take a day off or short ride on some days. He'll need that for days when he's putting on new tires, oil changes, etc. ( I wonder if he's pre-purchased tires )

I'd try to get someone to take the bike and work on it overnight, while I slept.

Anyway, ride safe.

Roy, in the video it showed he had a GPS unit set at 0.0 miles. I would guess that is what he intends to use to gauge the mileage. I expect he'll also have to keep pretty accurate third party records (gas receipts, etc.) to qualify for the record.
