Um, I can easily do a burnout from a dead stop going wide open from a light. In tour mode, even. With ease. Kinda fun, actually.

*Edit: I can squeal the tire with a nice black patch from a stop. Not officially a burnout. Surprised me the first time because I thought the traction control would prohibit it.

Remember the days when Kawasaki's Z1 was the fastest production bike made at 12.3 in the 1/4 mile. I remember breaking into the 11's with my XS1100 in 1978 and was thrilled...who would have ever thought back then that touring machines would be doing those times in the 1/4 one day.

Yea it amazes me that some think this wing is a fast motorcycle...yea the 6-speed more or less equals the quickest motorcycle from 50 years ago but compared to today's big bore bikes..or even 600cc sportbikes this wing is a slug...but it is fairly quick for a 830lb touring machine and of coarse it's 100 plus ftlbs of torque at only 1200rpms is very satisfying.

Gone are the days of 12 second cars being fast, now there are more than a few off the lot 4 door sedans that’ll run 12’s.
Bikes haven’t gotten much quicker in the last 20 years, my pea brain says traction is the main reason, can have all the power in the world and if you can’t put it to the ground it’s useless.
The GW isn’t fast or quick by any stretch when it comes to bikes.

For bikes? Nope.

For cars? Yep.

I SOLD quick and fast to buy my Gold Wing: when my but hurts and by back and neck are sore after an hour in the saddle, quick and fast ain't worth much. However, what a pleasant surprise I enjoyed the first time I put my DCT into sport mode. It's absolutely a whole different motorcycle. But for me, eh, oddly enough I almost never do so. I'm just as happy as I can be rolling through the gears at a medium clip... almost everywhere I go. It's nice to know there's a lot more grunt just a click away, but for me, I enjoy that machine every time I get on it, all the while turning maybe 8 second 0-60 times. And one big plus with my riding habits: I'm not looking at a bald rear tire and another 350 bucks to replace it every 7k miles.

I got away from the fast motorcycle because the power is just so addictive and I didnt want to risk my perfect driving record and great insurance rates with speeding tickets anymore...not to mention the comfort just isn't there and insurance cost with those machines is just so expensive.

I hear ya, Roadie. I'm as much drag racing fan as anybody, and I have certainly enjoyed owning and operating some pretty expensive and exciting high performance equipment. But it's funny how quality and smooth, comfortable and refined, amenities and options trump FAST after awhile. Reminds me a bit of my younger days as I laughed at love songs, great harmonies and timeless oldies... on the alter of late 60's and 70's hard rock. So here I am 50 years later with little or no interest in the hard stuff, but just loving the oldies that have stood the test of time. Hmmm even find myself more likely to enjoy a leisurely horse ride through the woods rather than a jaunt on the roller coaster, which I just loved when I was younger: but now, not so much. Funny how things change over time.
