I recently looked at one in person and I thought the craftsmanship was extremely shoddy. Looked to me like the lid might fall off at any time. The hinges were very, very poor. JMHO.
We have had 3 SSTs - now have 2 but have started talking with Adventure Sports about another.
The advantage of the SST is the HIGH PLATFORM it provides since we work out of our trailers. I pulled our SST behind our K1200LT on a trip from MI to GA in Aug while riding with 5 other K1200LTs - some riding solo and some riding 2-up. We all got about the same mileage (avg 50 mpg) riding all the back roads with lots of stops and speed limit changes.
