I had to stop and laugh at myself just a few minutes ago.

I was sitting here all upset and mad because it is 35 deg. outside and raining like cats and dogs and I had to cancel my ride for this afternoon. Now just how selfish am I :?:

Here it is Jan. 7th and since Fri. after Thanksgiving I have had the good fortune of being able to put over 2,000 miles on two different bikes. Now this takes the cake.

I guess it is a given that I should be able to ride as much as my southern brothers are.. LOL..... Really I am grateful that I have been able to get as many mile this winter as I have. It looks like we may get some actual winter weather for a few days and then by next Sat. be back in the 50's again. Hopefully it is not raining too hard then... LOLOL.........

Are you spoiled? Probably! But I don't blame you, Ross. I'm feeling the same way. It has been an amazing winter so far. I just wish it would stay warm until about April, then turn off nice. Am I spoiled? Absolutly!

Yes, you should feel very much ashamed!!!!! I two couples down for a little dinner and overnight stay last night (nice time by the way), but we were talking about how we normally get in several December and January rides -- NOT this year, or at least very unlikely from my place. Even if it were to warm-up and the main roads were cleared, I'd have to trailer my bike out of the neighborhood as there is just lots of snow. Next one is expected at the end of the week!!!

Glad you guys east of here are getting in lots of riding -- unusual, so take advantage of it!

Winter has finally hit San Diego. It's really windy here today, with the Santa Ana winds quite strong. It's 75° outside, but with the wind chill, it feels like 70°.

I thought maybe a little ride over Berthoud Pass would be in store? Just kidding, that could have been a very deadly event; I'm so glad that it was not. I received the following today via e-mail, kinda interesting I thought

WEATHER BULLETIN

Up here, in the Northern Plains, we just recovered from a Historic event--- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands.

FYI

George Bush did not come.

FEMA did nothing.

No one howled for the government.

No one blamed the government.

No one even uttered an expletive on TV .

Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit.

Our Mayor did not blame Bush or anyone else.

Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else, either.

CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit - or report on this category 5 snowstorm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards.

No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House.

No one looted.

Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something.

Nobody expected the government to do anything, either.

No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera.
No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found.

Nope, we just melted the snow for water.

Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars.

The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a penny.

Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snowbound families. Families took in the stranded people - total strangers.

We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns.

We put on extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die".

We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sittin at home' checks.

Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.
