Are we reaching a Limit?

Anyone feel that there is to many features, (air bag, ABS, heated everything, premium sound etc.) added to the Goldwing that we forget it's just a bike?

Did we reach a point for 2007 that we made it more then a touring bike, and paying for one is a another mortgage and not a bike loan?

What would cycle riders back in the 1930's and 40's say about this cycle we call a Goldwing today?

They would say that they sure do like that automatic oil pump feature.

I can't imagine having to manually pump oil to the engine every mile or so.

Gee Mike I think you could just about say that about everything. Look at the horse, wasn't a horse good enough ? No you had to tie a buggy to it, was that enough, no you had to tie a wagon to it. Was that enough, no you had to get a team of horses... natural progression if you ask me and I love it !
Now when is the blower coming for the Wing !
I don't have a clue as to what they would say about all the luxuries, but I bet they would like the starter button.
I'm waiting for the flying cycle that is shown in the movie "The Island".
I just hope they hurry up with it before I cross over to the other side...
They would have took off all the extras to lighten it up just like they did with the Indians and Harleys.
The Wing is not "just a bike". It is a wonder of modern technology. It left the regular bike theme when Honda made a specific fairing for it that was not just an add on.

To call it "just a bike" would be like saying the F-22 is "just a plane".
try this?

An older woman in her 70's was sitting in the kitchen of the grand daughter watching her prepare the evening meal. As the younger woman bustled about the elderly lady asked her a question. She said,"If you had to give up all but one of your modern appliances and items in the kitchen, which one would you keep?" The grand daughter thought about it for a while and finally said, " I suppose I would keep the refrigerator?"

"Hmmm" said the grandmother. "I would take running water every time."

It may be all a matter of perspective?

Maybe they'd say, "Where can I get me one of those?"

Well Mike, I can tell you almost exactly what just about every one of those old timers say when they see my Goldwing.
"Hey there young fella'. Nice sickle. I use to have one just like that, back in....."
DC
I wish mine had a heated windshield for these chilly mornings...
I don't know about you but I'm waiting for those flying scooters that Luke was riding on the Ewok planet.
They looked pretty cool.
They'd probably call the 1800 a Pimp mobile,but then they'd look @ a VALK & say HOLY S#!T, now there's a MOTORCYCLE!! :D
the hobo
Don't you imagine the guys back in the 30's would say something like, "I wish there was a road that went up and down a mountain somewhere that has about 180 turns in it so I can really see what this thing will do!!"?
Rastoff.. An over priced plane..... Hmmmm
Winger,

They would say: "Hey, momma, git ova hea. Com see what th heil is dis!"

That's why the lions share of my miles are now going on the Triumph... I missed the performance and the open air feeling of a real motorcycle.. It's the reason I started riding in the first place, simplicity and raw power.. Don't get me wrong, I still love riding the Wing, but it ceased being a motorcycle (by my definition) many years ago.. JMHO
I'd rather hear what the owners of the GL1000s would say (not today, but back in the 70's). Seems like they are the ones that first determined what it is today.
I my only opinion would be that the price of the Wing is definately getting to expensive. They can put all of the gadgets on the bike, won't be long before we are knockin on the door of $30,000. The Wing used to be a somewhat of a bargain. :D Not anymore. We're all Harley Bound. (price) JMHO
