I will be traveling from Beaufort, SC to Litchfield Beach on Tues, May 27.

Any suggestions for a route that would avoid Charleston congestion other than too much interstate? I have been eyeballing US 17A but looks like a lot of time in North Charleston area. Or is it ok?

Thanks.

Stay on HWY 17 all the way. Coming through Charleston city will be a little congested depending on the time of day as well as Mt. Pleasant, ie: lunch time; and we do have Spoleto going on here so the tourisms might be a little thick. Going the 17 route you will miss North Charleston.
On the other side of Charleston is Mt. PLeasant. Traffic not bad but stop and go for awhile.
The south roads into Charleston and then the north side out of Mt. Pleasant are good travel.
Take pictures of the Ravenel bridge when leaving Charleston city.

Have fun and be safe.

Just another thought, when arrpoaching Charleston exit onto I-526 towards Mt. Pleasant and then later extit back onto 17 north towards
Georgetown, by passing the city.

Beaufort to Litchfield

If you want to avoid the Charleston mess try this:

Hwy 21 to 17Alt to Walterboro Hwy 15 to 314 (just past I26) to Hwy176 to 311 to 6 to Monks Corner

17 Alt to Georgetown 17 to Litchfield. Nice ride through the low country.

Note: Watch your speed in small towns Police are just rolling tax collectors!
