We have been very happy with our Chatterbox by HJC and it was half the cost. Have not listened to other brands, so have nothing to compare it to. But I cannot imagine it being that much better - the HJC sounds purdy darn good - good luck

I have the J&M mid priced ones. They are OK. If this is the best there is then they stink. I would look at the top of the line Ed Sets or top of the line J&M. if you know someone with each try em

Upper line J & M's mounted in HJC Symax helmets. I'm completely satisfied with both but I rarely listen to music. The headsets are mostly used for the CB an GPS.
Shoot an email off to [email protected] for his pricing on J& M. He did me right. I bought the helmets from someone with an ebay online store for around $160 each but can't locate their store info at the moment.
Hope this helps.

I am very happy with the high end J&M headsets, superior sound quality and modular in design allowing easier installs and individual componet replacement if required. As far as having a problem with the upper cord, we have had zero in two seasons of riding. What I have found is to always disconnect the upper cord from the lower cord when dismounting, and leave the upper cord connected to the helmet. Depending on the helmet you may have to remove or modify some foam to install. Positioning of the earpieces are critical to getting the best sound quality available. Mount the ear pieces so that they are close to but not touching the ear with the center pointed at the ear canal.

I've had J&M's mid-priced headsets and EdSets. Here's my take on them:
The mic wire on the J&M's failed on both headsets at least twice. J&M replaced them without problems but it was a hassle. The lower cords were also replaced several times. Audio quality was good. volume at the speakers was high and didn't have to be placed close to the ears. Mic output was medium.
The EdSets have been durable enough. The upper connector failed and was graciously replaced. The lower cord is the same as a MIDI cord so if it fails you can buy a MIDI cord for $4 or $5 at any Radio Shack or music store (EdSets replacement cord is $30). Audio quality is superb but the speakers need to be placed as close to your ears as possible and they require a higher volume level than the J&M's. I ran the J&M's at about level 20 but run the EdSets at 25. The mic is very high output.
