Since you are from CO. I assume that the trip really starts there
If the UP isn't a destination thing, I would suggest routing through Duluth and doing the north side of Lk Superior. It's a very good ride and just enough different to be fun.

I would love to but I only have 2-1/2 days to get from MSP to Hartford, CT.

Option A. Plug in your Phone, listen to good music, enjoy the ride.

Lots of nice riding in the northern route suggestions, but if time is an issue, and you want to ride the UP, I'd reconsider just take the I75 to Flint and I69 to Sarnia / Port Huron, then 402,401,403, Lincoln Alexander Parkway, Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), 405 to the the Queenston/Lewiston Bridge to conect with I190.

(there are 3 bridges across the river --Queenston/Lewiston, Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls and Fort Erie/Buffalo)

As you likely already know running across on I94/I90/I80/I84 would be faster yet, but I'd guess a lot more traffic. Google suggests this route and says 1300 miles / 19.5 hours.
