When I posted my BBG ride report,I made the comment that I might try a SS 1000 on my KLR.
You guys made it sound like a challenge. Well I had Friday off with another 3 days to heal, so what the heck!
I left Mt. Vernon, Tx. headed East on I 30 @ 3am. Friday September 1. My destination was Nashville,Tn. or just short of it. I decided to turn around when the GPS hit 520 miles. Not a lot of planning involved<G>.
I went thru Little Rock & Memphis to Dickison,Tn. turned around and headed back West.
After eight hours I needed a lunch break,(actually I had taken a butt rubbing ,hand shaking break about every 100 miles) Lorreta Lynn's Kitchen, that sounds good!
Instead of eating with Lorreta ,I tried a BBQ joint at the same exit. The special for the day was Ribs. Pretty good.
After my Bozai run on the KLR I had used most of the quart of oil that I had with me. It seems the KLR requires extra oil to run the speed limit + 5 or so. You got to go with the Flow you know
I found a Wal Mart about 10 miles up the road and bought another quart of Rottela Synthetic. I was good to go.
Nothing much else to report , just hang with the flow of traffic( at least the faster ones) and stop about every hour for rest or gas.
My GPS showed 1058 miles in 18 hours. I was stopped for 2 hr 46 min.
It was not as easy as the Goldwing but you can make lots of miles on a KLR if you don't mind stopping some. If you try it on a KLR you will not mind stopping<G>
I saw lots of bikes. Lots of loaded up tourers. Could that have been some of the Border to Border riders on I 40?
What's next , UCC ,HMMMM
