GL1800 Gold Wing vs. BMW K1600GTL

Review the stats in Motorcycle consumer news again. I found three/4 problems.

1. It list the GL1800 Alt output as 300watts. That has got to be wrong. that that to run my headlight and fog lights 110 110 110 (fogs) = 360 W. So I'm guessing they did not check there facts.

2. MPG 37.0 reg gas GL1800. BMW 37.9 av 92 octane. So which is cost effective and better fuel economy? HELLO it isn't the BMW. BMW has 200lbs less weight and still, No matter the horse power, in the real world it will cost more to get you the same place.

3 Stopping with 200 lb weight more it takes 5 feet more to stop. Really. BMW 122.4 @ 60mph , Gl1800 127.4 ft. Did I miss a science class on speed, mass and kinetic energy?.

4. Third it lists the GL1800 to remove and replace rear wheel at 2 hours. The BMW at .4 hours. Humm 2 hours to R and R @ $160. Id say they are FOS and went to a Honda dealer.

And...Hows the trailer hitch hook up to one of those? With what gas mileage?

110 +110+110 = 330, not 360. I'm guessing you did not check your facts either.

The 300 watt spec was a typo, not a matter of having wrong facts. The output is 1300 watts. They left out the "1".

I can't say anything about the rear wheel. I don't subscribe to MCN and haven't read the article.

Regardless of the reason, it was no doubt shoddy journalism on MCN's part. Readers count on magazines to be accurate.

If we are being that picky - headlights are listed as 2 X 55 W.

And...for 2 hours to R&R rear wheel ?????....... I think they transposed the air filter which they list at .6 hours = 36 minutes........

What I'm saying is for all the high tech the BMW is, it still doesn't do well by comparison on fuel economy for a smaller and lighter machine. Glossed over in the report.

Yes that is 360 Watts at 12 volts. for hi - low and 55w fog lights. I thought the 2006-on had 1500 watts alternators.

It's a boatload more powerful and faster. Especially during a road test, they're going to be twisting the throttle hard, and bringing up that power.
