What is the difference between the G853 and G851 front tires? I know the G853 is the suggested one for the GW, but the G851 is cheaper and is the same tire size. It looks like the G851 is aimed at the Yamaha Stratoliner, which is a similar bike to ours.

Is anyone using the G851 instead?

IMHO don't go cheap on the tires, rather switch to CT if you do a lot of freeways

It’s about a $60 difference. I’m already running CT on the rear, this is for the front which I don’t plan on going to CT on.

In the past, manufactures have added more belts in the carcass to the tires designed for the Gold Wing, due to increased load. I would suspect this to be the case for the G853 as well.

Make sure you're comparing apples to apples. Check the tire rating. The recommended tire rating is an "H" 149mph. The higher the rating, the softer the rubber is and the softer the rubber, the faster it wears. This why you see a difference in pricing for the same size tire.

You can get the G853 front in both H and V speed rating.
