Has anyone fixed/repaired a broken toggle for one of the helmet locks?
It looks like I'm going to have to take the trunk apart to get a good
look at the mechanism. The detached toggle looks like it was designed
as a "snap-on compression" fit to the mechanism it attached too, but
when I put it back in the hole it fits in, it just turns freely without
releasing the hook. Any experience/suggestions would be welcomed.
Thanks

After I got my bike back from the shop after my accident, I found that both of the handles inside the trunk that unlatched the hooks had disconnected themselves during the accident and were lying loose inside the trunk itself. I too had the problem of getting them back into their locations but I kept playing with them until I got them in. You might have to take a look at the way they are positioned inside the trunk of another Goldwing in order to get them into the right position to reconnect.

They must go into a slot on the other end, if not seated right they will spin. once seated make sure they snap into the bottom of the trunk.

Used to be a common problem, you may have to grind 1/16" off of it, like the others have said it goes into a slot you will feel it go in, look a the one that is still in it goes in a mirror image of that one. Good Luck
