It's actually really easy to pop the dash panel/speaker covers off. It's not secured by any screws and just pulls right off. Pull up around the ignition first. The hardest part is disconnecting the little connector just in front of the ignition for the dials. Once that's disconnected, you may want to disconnect the tweeters as well. They are simple to push in the release to do that. It takes all of a couple minutes max to pull off the dash panel/speaker covers. That's it.

And unfortunately, I don't think there is any good way to seal off that area.

I have been able to remove them without disconnecting the wires. Just pop the panel loose and use air hose to blow them out.

 

That's normally a sign that it's time to trade in on a new bike.

 

I've got rid of bugs by simply blowing compressed air into the speaker grills. The bugs with normally blow right out where they came in. Be careful though and use lower air pressure.

 

A few bugs here and there? They won't hurt a thing and they show that you have been riding it!!!

 

I installed SS screen wire with slotted rubber
around edges to prevent scratches and the rubber makes screens fit tight in the front area behind the down tubes. Easily removed to clean when necessary.

 

Remove the meter panel and look for any openings around the speaker housing. Fill them with some soft foam rubber.
