Whatever you do, don't order one unless you try it on in a store and next to a salesperson who knows the business well. The Schuberth is a great helmet, however the fit is limited and not for everyone. I could not get comfortable with the C4 at all. No matter what the store did with the padding (mix and match). I wanted one, was not for me. I hope the C5 was designed accordingly. They are also not cheap. I also saw that they are not rated for US use, at this time. To all, give yourself a try on the HJC 90S Carbon. 100% superb !!!!!!.
Happy and safe head covered ride......!!!!!!

Some large sites in Europe have a note in big Red in regards to buying helmets not rated for the USA or any other countries and return policies too. S helmets are very safe and well made helmets, the issue is the regulations and insurance companies do obey by them and on top of that, they want to pay as less as possible to any claim they can. Moreover, if God forbid anything happens in head injuries, they have the rights to dishonor any claim related to your head. Go and fight that as you get better. Makes no sense, yes! Regulations, no choice. IMO, I will avoid, in general, buying any helmets in Europe or any other country. Many reasons why.

You say that with such conviction like you know what you are talking about. Do you? Have you ever seen such a dishonored claim? Please cite one instance where an insurance company has dishonored a claim related to a "head" protected by a euro spec non DOT certified helmet.
Its seems as you are edgy with my comments. First, every state has its own regulations and the country on top of that. I have been riding for 35 years now and have enough understanding about my limitations and dealing with cycle insurance reps and owners. Thank God I have not had the chance to deal with an accident related to that, however I do know, in NJ that in the even of a critical injuries in any motor vehicle, all insurance companies rep you and others, will start looking where the rider/s-drivers had a fault. Either lawyer will do the same. By finding even the tiny issue, will start negatively effect your total claim amount. Therefore, will deduct the most sever injuries from hospital bills and disability claim. I don't need to be a doctor or an insurance rep to understand that. In my insurance booklet that I get with my bill, online, its says: NJ helmet laws requires a DOT certified helmet with a sticker affixed. Moreover, Rider Insurance strongly recommends a full face helmet to be worn at all riding times. They are even mentioning to inspect all riding gear periodically!!!!! So, go ahead and cover your melon with anything you wish. THIS IS WHY, I didn't want to invest in a S helmet.

So you know of no case where an insurance company has dishonored such a claim? If you don't know, say you don't know. You argument went from dishonoring the claim to, as I read your response, to possibly reducing your total claim amount, in the event of a PI claim. These are 2 totally different circumstances. Your original assertion was that a claim would be DISHONORED.
No I have not, my friend. What I am saying is.......WHY giving them the chance to DISHONOR any CLAIM? Its very simple, in my book. I try to avoid stepping on anybody's toes, if not needed. In this case, making sure I have the correct requirement, even if I think its wrong. I don't make laws, I try to follow them. Even if S helmets are the best in the world, they might not be recognized in my State, in the event............... I don't want to visit that IF department, IF possible. If you think what I am saying its rubbish, please, by all means, use your S helmet or order one. Your brain is respected by me. Forget about what I said, please call your rep. Gladly will clarify this common debate.

From Schuberth:

WARNING:
Helmets manufactured for sale outside North America are not DOT certified and the riders assumes all risks and violations from buying and using these helmets.

SCHUBERTH North America distributes helmets that are designed to meet the US Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements of FMVSS No. 218. If your state has helmet requirements for motorcycle riders, it is a violation of state law to not wear a helmet meeting the US Federal DOT requirements. SCHUBERTH North America only warranties and services DOT helmets.

Please make sure your helmet has a DOT label on the back of the helmet.

So we have the same brand and model of a helmet that are not functionally interchangeable. I’m guessing if push gets to shove in the legal world the commerce department will be held accountable for allowing the helmet to be imported into the country.

I’ve never heard of an insurance company getting involved with being the gate keeper of what’s legal on the road. Insurance companies pay millions of claims a year for at fault claims. You can even file a claim if you’re drunk and at fault.…. the concept of them denying a claim to a rider for being accused of not wearing a DOT helmet is laughable.
I get you and agreed, my point to others, I want to be on the laughing side, not the crying one.

... a 25%(hypothetical) reduction in a brain injury settlement, is enough validation to buy a helmet that meets both ECE and DOT certification rather than just ECE alone.

We all spend hundreds of dollars buying useless accessories for our bikes, then can't justify the cost of a quality helmet to protect our brain!!
AMEN to that !!!!!!
