There is a software bug with the January 2019 Wing update that affects every incoming phone call to my bike.

Prior to the update, every incoming call was displayed properly with an actual phone number or the name listed in my contact list in my cell phone.
But after I did the update, every incoming call is listed on the screen as "Anne".
Later, when I check my phone, I can see who actually was calling, and it was not Anne (my wife).
This happens on every incoming call on every ride for the last 9 months, and it is very annoying.

Evidently this is fairly common, and there is an older thread that lists at least 10 people on this site that have the identical problem. Here is the thread....

So, I called Honda Customer Service and they knew nothing about it. No surprise there.

Yesterday, I spoke with Marc at HB Honda about the issue, and he had not heard of the caller ID problem.
Marc immediately called Kyle, the District Service Manager at Honda Motorcycles, and Kyle's boss, the Western US Service Manager was also listening to the call on speakerphone.
They were not familiar with the caller ID problem, but requested Marc to run a series of tests on 2018+ Wings with or without the update to get some factual data.

Kyle wanted testing done with iPhones and Android phones, and on several different bikes, and wanted empirical documented data to present to the Gold Wing Team in Torrance and Japan.

So, next Wednesday afternoon September 18th, we will be pairing and un-pairing several phones to several bikes to see if we can replicate the Caller ID problem, and present Dealer certified results to Kyle for evaluation.
If you are having the Caller ID problem, and would like to bring your bike and phone to Huntington Beach Honda that afternoon, you are welcome to join in our little experiment.
Jefro.

Yes, my January update had the same effect on my system that now, no matter who is calling, all incoming calls are displaying as one/same (and wrong) caller. Very frustrating.

Just a quick update:

We finished all the testing for the caller ID problem yesterday.
A dozen different phones were paired and tested, and their phonebooks were uploaded and tested for incoming calls.
And American Honda Motors sent over an original radio unit with the original software, and it was swapped into several bikes.
There were no caller ID issues at all with the test radio and original software. And the test bikes radios were tested as good.

Testing revealed the January 2019 update has a confirmed bug that generates the caller ID problem.
And it seems to start after the phonebook is uploaded to the bike.
Every brand of phone had varying degrees of caller ID trouble.
But it affects just a very tiny amount of new Wings, with a best guestimate of maybe 100 bikes in the USA.
There are about 20 or so complaints on this site, and Honda has received just a handful of complaints over the phone.
So it is very difficult to pinpoint how many are experiencing the caller ID bug.

All testing was documented in great detail with a case number, and provided to the Gold Wing Product Specialists in Torrance and Japan for review.
Now it will be up to Harman and Honda to find and fix the programming code.
And hopefully the fix will make it's way into the next software update.

Original USA software was HG.ACM.17.11.10.07.03.55
January USA update was HG.ACM.18.11.29.08.16.00

Software updates seem to be slow in coming. There are several bugs in the way the Nav system calculates routes and wants to force you to go back and pick up a missed waypoint. The color chosen for the smaller roads also nearly matches the background color on the Nav screen which makes them very hard to see. And the XM radar weather settings seem to get reset if you power on the bike and it doesn't get the XM signal, like when parked inside a garage. These are just a few of the bugs, there are several others. Hopefully they will fix more than just the caller id bug on the next update.
