Thanks much. I may give them a call but I would rather find a good independent shop nearer Austin. Do you recall about what they charge for the installation on a GL1800? Thank you.ck with police motor cycle specialist in dallas, they do very good work, installed may cb on my 01 in 2 1/2 hours and adjusted the swr, they also do all service repairs on any models.
also had tires changed with dyna beads installed, contact b.p. 214-660-3438.
I suppose I could do it but remember the one time I took most of theI just did mine myself on an '08. Not that hard, just time consuming.
:shrug:I shouldn't post my oil change pictures?bugsquawsher - me thinks you just scared the pdoddle out of Ben with that picture4: :22yikes: he may never ask for assistance again.
... and Ben, I have installed 5 or 6 CB's on GL1800's, would be happy to assist you if you want to ride to Spring, Texas - buy me lunch, we'll call it even - and I'll even put an SWR meter on it. :yes1:
I've put a CB in both my 1800's and the SWR was a little off on both. I had to grind a little off the bottom of the upper antenna shaft on both. If I remember correctly, I think I took off about 3/4" or so.BTW
If the SWR is off, what can you do about it. I know these things have a terrible Ground plane. Is there really any adjustment on the antenna?
I ask cause I have really looked.
I might take ya up on the SWR thing one day.
Last, I think that BOW antenna would look great - just be careful of the backlash!?!?!?!:22yikes:
Ah Yes
The 102 inch Whip with a tennis ball on the end and you just tie it to the handle bar when going into the Parking Garage.
I'm a Red Neck Goldwinger
There is Horse Poopy on my tires.
Hello Len,I can help you with the install. Helotes is about 90 miles from Austin; just outside San Antonio. I've installed about a dozen CBs so it doesn't take very long. Send me a PM.
Hello Len,
Saw where you are retired Telco. I am going on 37 yrs as an OSP engineer for Contel/GTE/Verizon. I was just reading through here trying to find info on installing a CB on my 2008 GL 1800 trike. Wanted to get it on before the 2009 Texas Trike Round-up in Kerrville in April. I talked to the folks at Mitchells Trikes in Gatesville where I bought my trike last August and they said they could put it on for about $120. I figure by the time I bought a GL 1800 service manuel ($70 or $80 bucks) and spent 7 or 8 hrs trying to put it on myself, that might not be such a bad deal. What do you think? I can't find any place that will do it cheaper. Boy, Honda sure is proud of that little radio and from what I read on the forum, it only gets out about 1 or 2 miles. I just want something that is going to work with my controls already on my trike and also the intercom system. Wingstuff has the radio for $599.99 and $114.99 for the antenna. That is the cheapest I could find on the radio & antenna and Mitchells Trikes said they could not beat the price that Wingstuff sells it for. Let me know what you think.
