owners manual wants you to run the engine to warm it up, shut it off and wait a few minutes, then check the level. Why can't I just check it cold as I have done with every other engine I've ever had?

Agreed...I always check mine cold, before I start it.

Do what pleases you. As long as you do it. A little over or a little under will make no difference. But I have known Wingers that will add a shot glass or remove a shot glass of oil, till it is dead nutz on.

What ever floats your boat, as long as you keep trying to float the boat.
