They must be built very well, hardly ever hear of one going bad even on high mileage bikes.
Anyone ever had one go out? Just wondering out loud.

They do occasionally fail, usually from top gun type competitions (lot of slow speed, trail braking, clutch feathering maneuvers). Get some reports of ckutch slipping from using energy conserving oils.

I had a 1996 GL1500SE that I replaced the clutch plates at 130,000 miles. I caused the failure while slipping the clutch trying to load it using a trailer ramp that was too steep.
I replaced the plates myself and rode it for a few thousand miles after. Not as scarry a job as you may think.

Now that you mentioned it, NO, I have not read much about bad clutches.........BUT that's a good thing...........
Gregg may jump in on this discussion, when he reads it.................He'd know more than 99% of the rest of us..

I have one coming in on the 27 with a clutch problem.

I sometimes write about clutch problems on my JustWings forum. Here is one Clutch slipping
