Well I took my bike to the Honda dealer in Leesburg Va. I asked them to put
on new tires for me, change the air filter and perform the 16k checkup.
I specifically asked for new valve stems for the tires, and told the manager
that I had the new airfilter in the trunk, I also supplied the tires, E-3's.
The manager told me they usually charge 90.00 per tire to mount if the
customer did not buy the tire from them. I asked him if he had any E-3's in
stock, he said no but could get them in a couple of days....(I should have
left at this point) He then said he would cut me a break and only charge me
60.00 each for mounting the tires.
So I called today to see if it was done. He said they looked at the air
filter and said it did not need to be changed, he then asked me how old the
spark plugs are. I told him about 2 weeks. he said they looked new.I told
him I would be by to pick it up.
Well I sat at work wondering why you would not replace an airfilter after
you go to all the trouble of pulling the shelter...I was getting madder and
madder, wondering if they just said they checked it but didn't and are going
to charge me the labor for the half shelter removal.
I arrive at the dealer....Look at my bike, no evidence of half shelter being
removed, and no new valve stems, but new tires.....I talked to someone, not
the manager, I suspect he was hiding. I asked them why they did not change
the air filter, explaining that Honda wants this done at 15k and what would
I do if my engine blew up and they found out the filter was not changed.
Unlikely I know but still...Asked why the manager basically lied to me over
the phone...Come to find out they determine if the air filter needs
replacing by looking at the spark plugs. So this is what he should have told
me, not we checked the filter. Plus I supplied the filter and specifically
told them to put it in...I also pointed out the old valve stems dry rot and
all, the guy I talked to in person said they would have to order them, I
said why didn't the manager tell me that when I asked for them, now I have
to pay extra to have them put in. He said they would do it at no charge...
Real nice what do I do in the time being ? I guess drive around with dry
rotted valve stems.
So to sum it up I asked for tires put on, airfilter changed, new valve
stems.
what I got was tires put on and a 133.00 charge for BS, a little grease here
and there, they claim they checked the steering head bearing, is this
possible without removing anything??? Oh and a big lie about they checked
the air filter and it was ok.
My question is...Is this worth reporting to Honda or the BBB?? I have not
heard anything positive about this place , but thought I would give them the
benefit of the doubt.
BTW the parts guy laughed at me when I asked him if I could get a set of
E-3's, he said they have been backordered forever.
Moral of the story, If you want something done right you have to do it
yourself.
