Well I took my bike to the Honda dealer in Leesburg Va. I asked them to put
on new tires for me, change the air filter and perform the 16k checkup.

I specifically asked for new valve stems for the tires, and told the manager
that I had the new airfilter in the trunk, I also supplied the tires, E-3's.
The manager told me they usually charge 90.00 per tire to mount if the
customer did not buy the tire from them. I asked him if he had any E-3's in
stock, he said no but could get them in a couple of days....(I should have
left at this point) He then said he would cut me a break and only charge me
60.00 each for mounting the tires.

So I called today to see if it was done. He said they looked at the air
filter and said it did not need to be changed, he then asked me how old the
spark plugs are. I told him about 2 weeks. he said they looked new.I told
him I would be by to pick it up.

Well I sat at work wondering why you would not replace an airfilter after
you go to all the trouble of pulling the shelter...I was getting madder and
madder, wondering if they just said they checked it but didn't and are going
to charge me the labor for the half shelter removal.

I arrive at the dealer....Look at my bike, no evidence of half shelter being
removed, and no new valve stems, but new tires.....I talked to someone, not
the manager, I suspect he was hiding. I asked them why they did not change
the air filter, explaining that Honda wants this done at 15k and what would
I do if my engine blew up and they found out the filter was not changed.
Unlikely I know but still...Asked why the manager basically lied to me over
the phone...Come to find out they determine if the air filter needs
replacing by looking at the spark plugs. So this is what he should have told
me, not we checked the filter. Plus I supplied the filter and specifically
told them to put it in...I also pointed out the old valve stems dry rot and
all, the guy I talked to in person said they would have to order them, I
said why didn't the manager tell me that when I asked for them, now I have
to pay extra to have them put in. He said they would do it at no charge...
Real nice what do I do in the time being ? I guess drive around with dry
rotted valve stems.

So to sum it up I asked for tires put on, airfilter changed, new valve
stems.

what I got was tires put on and a 133.00 charge for BS, a little grease here
and there, they claim they checked the steering head bearing, is this
possible without removing anything??? Oh and a big lie about they checked
the air filter and it was ok.

My question is...Is this worth reporting to Honda or the BBB?? I have not
heard anything positive about this place , but thought I would give them the
benefit of the doubt.

BTW the parts guy laughed at me when I asked him if I could get a set of
E-3's, he said they have been backordered forever.

Moral of the story, If you want something done right you have to do it
yourself.

Reporting to Honda or the BBB will get you nowhere. Save your breath. Call them back and ask them to right the wrongs AT NO CHARGE. If they are worth anything, then they will step up to the plate. If they don't, then don't darken their doorway again. They may or may not give a rats a$$ about Wing riders either. There are a lot of dealers like this, thats no secret. If a customer comes in and wants an air filter changed, then change it. Who cares if it needs it or not, just change it. Call them back and be nice, but voice your complaint and see what they do.

Sounds like you need a new dealer. I DID pay 128 bucks last month to change tires, I didn't have to mount/unmount them, or mess with the trailer hitch to do it. they didn't give me any runaround about it, and said they didn't care whether I bought them there or brought them in. They should have been clearer about the air filter.. I guess if the plugs show that you're running too rich, that could indicate that the ar filter is clogged, but it seems like the ECM might accomodate the restricted airflow and mask that symptom... On the other hand, riding around the DC area, your filter may be just fine.. (as opposed to texas, where it rains mud.

If nothing else, the fact that they guy could see dry rot on your valve stems would make me leery of their mech..

I was hoping for a link to the vids, thanks. I am sure they will pay for themselves.

Sounds normal to me too. I get my tires mounted at "stealer" for $20.00 ea. But I remove them from the bike.

its not just the wing dealer. this is an inherent problem in the whole automotive dealership service program. there are alot of offkey service people that are trying to save their a$$ and job and will say and do to get you back out the door minus your money. :rat:

Checked the air filter condition by looking at the plugs!?? That is rich! I guess they would check the oil filter by looking at the oil! I wonder if they can get a good fuel pressure reading the same way. Jesus! How do these guys sleep at night?! It is just amazing how little the conscience of some people are. Actually, it's sad. :( I would be mad.

reason number 4,965 why I don't use delers unless I have to.

I paid $20 per wheel to change tires. Dealer did not stock valve stems. Bought them from Hal and had them changed with the tires. I marked them before they were installed so I could tell if they actually installed the new stems.

I changed my own air filter. Would not let the dealer touch the bike with a wrench unless he was paying for it. Have you actually seen the guys who work on these bikes!!!

Yikes!

Don't totally dismiss the BBB. IF the dealership is a member, you might be able to get some kind of satisfaction. A few years ago, I had a problem with Competition Accessories in Ohio, they apparently were going through a management change and got my order all messed up. Then they would not give me a refund or a credit. I filed a complaint with the BBB in their location (I'm in AZ) and they responded. After some back and forth, they resolved the issue to my satisfaction.

And I had another good resolution in my own city with an auto dealer service dept.

StoryTrigger: I once had considerable problems with a Chrysler dealer, the cage was literally turned into lemonade at the hands of their demented warranty service department. When I contacted the BBB out of frustration with their misbehaviors they informed me because of all the complaints, that the dealer was the only one in Alberta that had been blacklisted and that there was nothing they could do to help me.

Chrysler was also similarly at arms length, and indicated that they exercise absolutely no control over the dealers (BS, they could hold back shipments over the bad blood this dealer was creating).

Should have checked with the BBB before I bought the cage.

I just noticed, last time I bought a Chrysler was in 1981 ... guess I do hold a grudge ... they should be proud of themselves!

Do they balance them too?

You pay $20 to get a tire mounted and then you call them a "stealer"? That doesn't make any sense to me at all.

M4 -- Don't know if you have checked out Shenandoah in Winchester, but everytime I've taken mine there for service I have been satisfied. You could also check out Ridersville Honda in Berekley Springs, WV. Never used them for maintenance, but they are very accomodating whenever I head over there to check out their inventory. I did speak with one 1800 rider in Hagerstown, MD that had nothing but compliments for Ridersville's maintenance and the staff. Wouldn't hurt to check either one of these out since Leesburg didn't meet your expectations. And, the ride on rt 9 to Berekley Springs is really great if you enjoy the twisties.

I think I suggested the Shenandoah Honda Shop to Winston a while ago. I've been fine with the place. The mechanics there do a decent job on getting the work done. I did have a problem with my first tire change where they dingedup the rim a little. They gave me a good discount on my next service there then. They are now building a bigger shop just down the road.

You sure did Dan...Shenandoah Honda has been good to me as well. By the way partner, my neck surgery is healing well and should be able to ride in another 6 to 8 weeks. Just hope it doesn't get toooooooo cold before then. :!:
