Shortblock
I have a longblock with a buggered up head, but have just bought the head it needs. The engine has 37k on it. For the right bucks I'd 'short' it and sell it.
However, it seems you'd be better off to have Honda and the insurance company replace your engine cases if you only have 17k miles on an otherwise good and well-maintained engine. Then you know what you have.
Just make sure (insist) they replace the rings and other pertainant aspects with new when overhauling it, rather than letting them be cheapo. That's their job. Luck.
