Another crate motor gets shipped here for repair. This one came from Maryland, and has transmission problems.

Curious as cost for repair, versus just the owner buying another engine from a running, but wrecked salvage yard bike?

I often wonder if "personal sentiment" comes into play at these times?

I'm not sure and it depends on how one tallies the risk. At my shop, if a used engine is the choice for repair, I have the customer provide the engine. In other words, I am only responsible for properly installing the engine. Unfortunately, not only is the used GL1800 market flooded with transmission problems, but the used engine market is flooded with them too. We have a board member, I think he lives in Kansas, who was doing engine swaps to fix his Wing. He installed at least 2 used engines before his wife bought him another Wing. Possibly the old Wing was passed onto his son. If so, a 3rd engine swap would have been required.
