Dealer checking O2 sensors

Question to all those who might know about O2 sensors. I'm getting my ECM changed and other small warranty stuff done to my 2002 Gl1800. All work has been done, but the dealer is waiting for a tool to test O2 sensors. It was supposed to be in, but the first tool was defective, then they were going to overnight the tool and it never made it. So I'm still waiting on the tool before they can test the O2 sensors.
Does anyone know about how they test these sensors or if they need a tool to test them? Has anyone had their O2 sensors replaced under warranty and how did they find out the original ones were bad?

Thanx for any info inadvance if you know.

Bill,
Honda instructs O2 sensor testing with a digital voltmeter. The problem is, the techs need a test harness or break out box to tap into the ECU. This equipment is in very short supply and is sent to dealerships overnight when requested. I'm certain that's what they're waiting for. It's easy to perform the test without the harness, but Honda worries (rightfully so) that techs using back-probing techniques will either short out the ECU or foul up the wiring harness.

Testing 02 Sensor

Both of my O2 Sensors were replaced at different intervals during the past year (one a year ago and the other this past August) on my 01 Wing. In both cases the F1 light blinked the appropriate signal to indicate and isolate the problem for each one and remained on continuaously while driving. If you're having a problem with your sensors, I'm surprised your F1 light is also not giving some indication of the problem(s).

My mileage improved about 6 MPG after the 2nd sensor was replaced over the mileage I had gotten since I first bought the bike (at that time about 40,000 + miles).

Good luck,

O2 Sensors Replaced

The Honda dealer did finally replace the O2 sensors after getting the correct tool for checking them out. Mother Honda was keeping in contact with this new dealer. But everything has worked out great and the dealership was great too! They have a nice attitude and the service dept. is good. I have no complaints with this dealer. Others in my area are quite a different story. (Cleveland, OH) Northeast Ohio area.
Now the bike is back home all tore apart for the CB install, Progressive springs, windshield vent, and some routine maintenance.

Happy Holidays everyone and what a Holiday present to ALL for catching the BAD guy this weekend!
