I'm considering buying a Goldwing in the US and importing it into Canada. Does the speedometer on US models display miles and kilometeres or only miles?

Thanks

Yes, they do display KPH, however the odometer only reads in miles.

My experience has been that older models do both [my 2002 GL1800 has both] but my newer bikes [2004,2005 don't. In Canada they show k only and the US models only show Miles].

Not a giant deal as you could install a speedo healer and it would show to 140 kph. No one ever goes faster than that , right ?

PS I just brought mine in from the US and it was very easy.

YOu also need to be aware that warrenty and recalls would have to be done in the US on a US bike and in CN on a CN bike... even if they are properly imported...

Stevie,

You can save several thousand by purchasing in the USA, even after you pay the exchange rate, taxes, duties, and vehicle inspection.

But as Sassy mentioned, Honda Canada does not like this as it cuts into their profit (or very high administration fees), so once you bring in your bike, have it registered and licenced, Honda Canada considers it a gray market bike and refuses to honor any warranty claims. You will have to return the bike to the US for any claims.

Good thing is, that there are no recalls for '05 or '06.

good luck.

Great info! Thanks

I'm just looking at this as one of my options. Personally I'm typically not one to jump through a lot of hoops to save a few bucks. I'm more inclined to take the easy, no-stress route in most cases but we are talking about a very considerable amount of money here so it warrants further investigation at the least.

Aside from my house this is by far the biggest purchase I will have made in my life so I want to consider my options carefully.

The manufacturers/Parts Canada etc are making a killing by still charging us 1.5 times US prices even though the exchange is nowhere near that any more. It's pretty friggin' irritating!
