Just rebuilt my rear shock. The System is hydraulic. A master cylinder uses hydraulic fluid to push down on the slave cylinder, which presses down on the top of the spring. The slave asm is anchored to the top of the shock, not the spring.
picture #1, the Adjuster/Master disassembled. The round disk in the middle of the pan is the master cylinder.
picture #2, using a spring compressor tool, getting ready to remove the slave asm from the rear shock asm.
picture #3, the slave asm disassembled. The round Alum ring in the middle is the slave cylinder.
