I would take the Ferry over to Washington Island with your bike. They have nice roads and places to eat and see. We spent the whole day over there and put like 50 miles on the scooters. Enjoy, great area! We went up there for our 25 wedding anniversary.
This is creepy...I am doing the same thing, although no surprise for the SO. She really needs to do more LD riding with me. We are planning on going in August sometime for a 3 day weekend.
Any particular place to stay (on the waterfront, either side) that is reasonable and nice (i.e. $100-150/night)? Looks like everything is at the highest prices right now and there are about a million lodging choices! A small 1 bedroom cabin would be cool, but the SO does not "rough it" so it must have AC and indoor plumbing. I suggested doing a different B&B each night but she wasn't keen on the idea for some reason. I'll take any and all recommendations at this point.
When you get to Sturgeon Bay, stay on 42 (west side of Door Cty) all the way to the tip.
Many small towns to visit and eating places.
Our favorites are Fish Creek and Sister Bay(goats on top of Al Johnson's.)
At the tip, is the ferry that will take you and your motorcycle across to Washington Island. A small town with many roads to ride.
We live about 1 1/2 hours south of there and visit many times a summer.
Oh, I forgot to tell you, bring a lot of cash as it is expensive up there.
Get gas at Sturgeon Bay before you cross the bridge.
If you enjoy superb craftmanship visit "Fine Line Design Gallery & Scuplture Garden on Hwy 42 just north of Ephriam.
This shop features stuff I could NEVER afford (desks for $8,000, chairs for $2,400/ea, dazzling yard ornaments in the $1,800 - 3,600 range) and it is all created by exceptional craftsman. You have to see the goods to appreciate the quality.
