I was finishing up the winter maintenance on Ol' Yellow yesterday, when a last inspection before putting the plastic back on, I found the drive shaft boot bad.
Now granted, that is something I don't normally check regularly, but I was also looking for a bolt that went to never-never land. The boot was split between the center bellows on the inside ( toward the center of the bike).
Ol Yellow is a 01 with 50K miles. Lucky for me, I have the extended service contract until 08. The dealer said 2.7 hours labor. At $75 bucks per hour, the service contract looks pretty cheap now....
Just a heads up for those with bike nearing 50K miles....Check it out......

OH Yeah!
I think I remember there being a bunch of that with the first couple of years of the 1800.
Some had problems right away and some never did.
Makes me wander if that just went away in the later years,
or if there have been others have the problem through the model years.
Thanks for the reminder....mines a new 07 right now, and it's a good idea
if I keep my eye on that boot until it shows it's stable.
Never hurts to keep checking these things.
