Evolution CB - a No GoGot my

Got my new Evolution CB last week and wasted no time installing it. The first time I fired it up, it worked great. The next day, I turned the key to acc and noticed my Intercom was off. I switched it on and then hit the CB button. The dreaded CB Error message came up on the display. I tried everything including disconnecting and reconnecting power with no success. The next day I got the info on the wiring mod. Today, I did the mod and put everything back together. I'm still getting the error message.

I sent an email to Bike MP3 and I'm waiting a response. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen and whether they have figured out what caused it. I did a search on the board and on Google but all the answers are for 2010 and before, mostly with OEM models.

You'll get an answer from Bike MP3 but they've just finished up WingDing and are on the road back to Florida so, unlike their normal instant answer, there might be a few days delay in responding.
I would like to help here, but I ordered my radio on the 23rd of March and have as of yet even received a tracking number let alone the radio. May have to cancel my order.
OCPD sent you a PM
Installed my new Evolution CB today and so far everything works as promised. In fact, the install was a real breeze, didn't even have to take the seat off! Drilling holes in my trunk is always nerve-wracking, but I just started off small and stepped up bit sizes until I got to 3/8", all with no trouble. And, yes, I did get the notice on the wire mod, no big deal. I will be eager to try it out on my ride to Nova Scotia next weekend.

I know it is taking awhile but I think he had a lot of orders to fill. I like the form factor if I can just get it to work. I know it is something stupid that I overlooked, too.

Glad to hear your installation went OK. I know mine is something minor. I just need some guidance.

Don't count on it being an install issue. Mine worked great for three days, then the " cb error message" came on. I emailed them, Pete responded (on a holiday weekend) said it was a bad unit . We are on a two week vacation. Pete indicated he would ship me a new unit, so I sent him the address of our condo early Monday morning. So now it's Wed. And not a word.
good luck to you.
Bill
I just sent Nicki another email asking for a response. We'll see what happens. If I don't get a response in a reasonable time, I may have to pick up an OEM modulemand ship this one back to Pete for a refund. Too bad because I was really looking forward to the new radio of theirs.
Keep this thread going if you are having the CB ERROR report it here. I have two that are having this problem please list the year of your bike.
2006 ( New CB on the way )
2003 ( New CB on the way )
They both ran a little over 150 miles and worked great before reports of the "CB ERROR"

DO NOT MAKE THIS A Evolution CB FLAME THREAD. If you are able to solve this problem without getting a new unit post here.
Well, I have no intention of flaming them. Nicki was clear on the possible cause of the error message and is working to resolve the issue. Mine is a 2012 ABS / Comfort. What she said about blowing a fuse due to my installing before the mod came out makes sense. I'll post again when I get my replacement unit and get it running.
Same Problem

I installed my new Evolution before leaving on a 2-week trip. It was messing up my Nav unit, resetting and changing the zoom level. Plus an annoying whine in my bluetooth receiver. When instructions came to modify the cable before installing, I was concerned. I disconnected power and the data cable and my Nav unit started working properly again, and no whine.

I got home a couple days ago and made the modification to the cable. I immediately got the "CB Error" message and the Nav unit wouldn't work. Hopefully I am not screwed. We'll see if/when Pete responds. Being on the road makes sense, so I'll give it a few days and try again.
Third Time The Charm?

Well, I got a second module the other day and it blew after a half hour. I notifed BikeMP3 and told them I was about to give up. Nicki told me they identified another manufacturing defect and asked me to try another module. I just got it this afternoon and will install it tonight or tomorrow. I'll keep everyone posted on how it works out.

I will say one thing: No one compares to BikeMP3 in customer service. And, as far as the bad modules well, it's a new product and sometimes you get these issues. If my experience helps others down the road, it will be worth it.

Check ALL the fuses in box especially the lower right bank regards of what they are listed as

The CB has zero interface with the NAV controls there is something going on with your bike you need to investigate just what.

That said did the zoom change when you transmit? if so its the old 2012 bike issue you may need to break out the foil

Thanks for the patience sometimes with new products you don't find the bugs however much you test until you get it into the widespread market then as in this case the fix for the first issue cascaded to cause the second.

I am assured by the team that all is good to go now which will disappoint my FedEx guy no end who said he was about to retire off us in the past few weeks

I hear ya, Pete. If this was software, you could just call it a "feature".

cb error

got mine installed today worked for a few minutes, CB error now and, i thought it might have to cut the orange wire, i did still no go CB error.

The Saga Concludes

I received my third Evolution unit on Monday and installed it. BTW, I'm getting pretty good at these and can install one in under 10 minutes. I waited until now to say anything because I wanted to make sure the unit would work. I tried it under every condition and load I can think of and nary a hiccup. The unit transmits and receives quite well. In fact, a friend of mine half mile away was on the cellphone with me and I transmitted and heard myself loud and clear. I was very impressed.

I have returned the second unit to Pete. He advised me they had another issue (besides the orange wire issue) that caused the units to blow. Mike, just follow their instructions and get a new unit installed. I think you will be happy.

Again, even though there was a problem with the unit, BikeMP3 quickly and promptly rectified the situation. These kinds of things are bound to happen with a new state-of-the-art item like this. When I was actively in the business world, I was always taught the customer is king. Nicki and Pete have obviously read the same book. I could only hope that half the businesses I deal with had the customer service BMP3 does.

The orange wire has nothing to do with the CB error which was caused by a software issue that cascaded once fixed to reveal a component issue but not until we had sent out the first batch of replacements hence why you got swapped twice, all units shipping now have all the fixes as do the cables so no need to to cut wires unless you got it before the first week of July even if you didn't cut the cable worst would be the starter fuse popping as a reminder to do it no effect on the radio or CB

new unit was shipped today, so we will see after i get it. thanks pete for the quick reply to my email..:doorag:
