On the Center stand.

From the Service Manual:
FINAL DRIVE OIL
OIL LEVEL CHECK
Place the motorcycle on its center stand on a level
surface.
Remove the oil filler cap from the final gear case.
Check that the oil level is to the lower edge of the
oil filler hole.
Check for leaks if the oil level is low. Pour the recommended
oil through the oil filler hole until it
reaches the lower edge of the hole.
Coat a new O-ring with oil and install it onto the oil
filler cap.
Install and tighten the oil filler cap.

RECOMMENDED OIL: Hypoid gear oil, SAE #80
TORQUE: 12 N·m (1.2 kgf·m, 9 lbf·ft)

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS and it works great.
Also use a small plastic, lower unit gear oil pump that you can buy a Walmart. This makes changing the oil very easy..

Do the change on the center stand..
Good Luck,

I just squirt the oil from the oil container into the hole, it does not take much oil. A firm squeeze should do it.
10 Minute job on center stand.

Before you remove the bolt to drain the oil, remove the one where you add oil. Some have drained it then not been able to refill it because the bolt won't come off or they damage it.

Not mentioned but worth noting. I change mine after riding, while it's still warm.

Pretaining to the rear gear case oil change................

Does anyone make a magnetic drain plug for the rear end? I always like to change the standard plugs on my bikes for a magnetic one if it's avaialbe.

gear oil change

I used a squeeze plastic Dollar Store ketchup bottle with a flexible plastic hose attached to the end. Squeeze it in until it runs out.
