Been waiting for a bit of nice weather to do this. Normally I prefer to ride without a trunk or topcase, but when doing bigger trips the storage space is crucial. I stumbled across the Shad on the board here and I particularly liked the fact that it's easily removable, expandable to three different sizes and you can get a luggage insert sized for the topcase. The luggage insert has a zippered section that will make it smaller or larger. I think the black and carbon fiber goes well with the blacked out Pearl Stallion Brown finish... :)

I'm pleased so far... Hoping for more warm weather to finish up the rest of my installs...

I fell in love with that color back at the 2018 MC show in Chicago. Always felt when I pulled the trigger I'd want that color if I could find one... (and I did...)

Running these

They didn't actually fit the 2018, but if you grind down the tab they do (thanks Doug Crocker.. picked up a set from him he had modified...). Paint the grinded down section gloss black.. bingo. I'm actually pretty happy with them as they let me move my feet around a bit more and gave my knees a bit of relief..

Here's the Shad SH58X on my bike:

It's clean, wife loves it. Note that I did NOT use the Shad mounting post system! I used a normal rear carrier (clone of a Honda - bought on Amazon for about $140), then had the wife sit on the bike and I positioned the top box where she wanted it for comfort. Marked the position, drilled some holes through the carrier to secure the Shad mounting plate, and I was done.

We've done plenty of 2 up rides, and she's quite comfortable with the case in small or large configuration (I never use medium) - plenty of back support, and it's in the right place for her.

IF you use the Shad mounting post system, it's faster and easier, but you're a bit more constrained in where you can mount it, and you do not have a full rear carrier when the case is off. I like having that big, thick aluminum plate back there when the top case is off - I've bungied down LARGE boxes on it before without concern.

As you see in the first photo, I have the Shad mounting plate on it. That stays put. It's a pain (screws and nuts) to mount, so I leave it on, it's pretty flat and thin.

This is the carrier I bought; there are several identical options. It's basically a clone of the Honda rear carrier:

No photos of it by itself on the bike.
