Garmin GPS mounting

I have my 565 mounted on the left handlebar. I use a Powerlet (BMW) connector to allow me to share the GPS and mount between all my bikes so I don't have to buy a mount for every bike. It also lets me move the five GPS's I have around to the bike I want to use it on.

I just unscrew the mount and move it to any bike that has a powerlet female jack. All mine do.

Checkout Cruiseman video on YouTube for his Garmin install.
That's the way I did mine, except I didn't cut the tang on the Goldwing, I cut a slot in the Ram Ball. I don't like modifying a bike anymore than necessary. I also really, really didn't like his electrical wiring. As you can see in my pictures, I cut the wiring harness for the mount all the way back to about a foot and added the Ram Ball. Then I connected the Powerlet male connector. Then I made a small bracket out of piece of angle aluminum, painted it black and installed a female powerlet. I ran 16 gauge flexible wire from the powerlet back to the Show Chrome Fuse Isolator Box.

All this sounds like a lot of work, but it really wasn't much more than just running and connecting the wiring from the mount back to the accessory plug.

The dash mount like Traxxion is the only way to go for me. Wouldnt want anything that big on the bars. Thank God I dont need that.
While I agree the Garmin is a big clunky thing to have on the handlebars, it is also a big clunky thing to have on the dash. And, over the long run, the mount messes up the dash. I do agree with Cruiseman, that when you buy an expensive motorcycle, like the Goldwing, you expect something better than the GPS they provided.

I compare the 2018+ Honda GPS to a supermodel. Low functionality and high maintenance. Great to look at, but you wouldn't want to marry it. Honestly, I have tried to use the Harman, to set basic routes, but there is just too much that goes wrong. You certainly can't do anything complicated.

I am definitely not saying mine is this best choice. I'm just sharing ideas for those who might be interested. It isn't for everyone.

oh yea, i get that. didnt mean my comment to be a knock. personally, i ve gotten the honda nav to work using kurviger with over 70 way points, so i dont have a need for the garmin. the honda nav and car play give me everything the garmin gives me and more. there really isnt a great way to mount the garmin but on the dash, it fits well and looks the best, imo, right above the honda screen. replacing the air vent would be cheap enough later.
Oh heck, I didn't take offense. All these are 'first world' conversations that really don't mean much. I was just sharing my solution but realize there are more ideas. It's what makes us all better.
