It's obvious why you can't "bare" arms in Canada... it's too cold. Me, I want "Bear Arms" that way I don't need a gun. (Though I might run into a shotgun carrying "Amurican") :roll:

... There must be other factors involved. Otherwise if you are safer with more relaxed firearms regulations does it not follow that the US should have a much lower rate of intentional homicide?

What law will prevent "intentional homicide"? Does not every civilized society already have laws that say murder is against the law? Even the Bible says "Thou shalt not murder". So, if those laws don't work, how does forcing honest, law-abiding citizens to turn in their firearms going to help? Can you explain that?

Something that the U.S. does more than other country is our open boarder policy, wide ass open. Many people enter our boarders by land, air and sea. Some of these people aren't very law abiding and our security is not very tight. Even after 911 our security is a joke. We are getting help from our northern neighbors but the southern boarder has been a disaster for a long time.
Its only a matter of time when a nuclear device will be detonated in the U.S. via the back of an illegal Mexican.

This isn'nt even close to GL1800 issues, its just a Country bashing thing now. I'm not going to do any bashing right now but its sure not doing much for any of us traveling in each others country. Hope when we see each others Licence plate it doesn't effect our decision to lend a helping hand if needed as our countries mean more to us than our bikes.

Went to Alaska in July/August. Didn't see any reason to carry a gun for any reason. We saw grizzly bears but only in Denali Park. I don't have anything against carrying a gun but I can't see causing a disturbance crossing the border. A friend of mine mentioned he had a gun permit from his home state. They field stripped his bike and trailer and made him uncomfortable as the did a body search/pat-down of him and his wife. He was trying to be honest but should have said NO, when he was asked about having firearms. Everyone else was waved on through.

Don't forget - a passport will be required after the end of this year.

I concur about shotguns and bears.....just make him mad. A six shot .44 magnum would be a better choice for bear defense.

I would opt for a pair of S&W 500 .50 caliber revolvers but there have been reports of armed campers being killed by a bear coming through the wall of their tent (in the USA). The campers didn't have a chance to even use their firearms.
