Gps is lost after a big move

1306 Views 28 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  Captron
I loaded my bike on a trailer and moved from Colorado (too cold for me) to Florida.
My gps still thinks it is in Colorado...funny but not a big thing as I use my phone for nav.
The movers haven't showed up yet so I don't have my tools to disconnect the battery.
No big deal just wondering if anyone else has run into this.

I would think that if you just leave it sitting turned on with a clear view of the sky that it would pick up enough navigation satellites to finally catch up with its location. I've had that happen with my Garmins when I've traveled by air and it wakes up in another part of the country.

Typically happens when a gps unit is off and moved more than 100 miles from where it was last turned off. No need to disconnect the battery. Turn the bike on, have a clearviewof the sky. The gps unit will acquire the gps satellite constellation that is visible in FL. It may take 5 or more minutes.

It'll be hard, but try to find a hill with a curve. That may shake it out of its homesickness.

If the GPS is on and has a clear view of the sky, it will find itself. Generally a GPS will find itself faster if it is not moving. A quick check with Google said that you may have to do a full reset of the GPS to get it to work again.

Maybe because Florida is all a swamp, the GPS tells you, not recommended, might as well not showing to you. :p:p:p:p

Is the time correct on the bike for Florida?

prs
I'm betting it will wake up out of its' daze and find itself, for I find it ironic that the device that we use to prevent us from getting lost, is lost.😲

@Kotka It should come around once moved.
Welcome to Florida!
Where in FL are you moving to?
Success. I found a reset in the audio menu that cleared all settings including the gps...it now knows where it is

Thanks

For real now, Florida is a place for a Goldwing. My wife is against it. Weather related in the Summer days. I would never see my car. Miami Beach, we loved so much, but soooooo expensive, even for a simple flat, these days.

In The Villages your GPS isn’t the only thing that’s lost!

I’ve called Florida home for 40 years. It’s been good to me. Some nice riding areas up there.

Welcome to Florida….

Reach out if you like. There are several relic (f/k/a GWRRA) groups still operating around here with very busy riding schedules. You are in a prime location, especially riding South, once you get away from the Ocala area.

BTW, in which village did you locate?

You will have to take your bike back to Colorado and sell it, and purchase a new one in Florida.
