H7 Headlight question

4623 Views 69 Replies 20 Participants Last post by  LarryM
I've been looking at getting some brighter headlights on my 08 ABS. One manufacturer sells H7 bulbs that are "55/110" and say that they draw 55W, the same as the original bulbs, but put out 110W of equivalent light.

I can't seem to get my head around that. Experience tells me that there's no free lunch, perpetual motion machine, or money for nothing.

Can anyone provide some clarification to this confusion?

Hello Dr.Phil have we got a doosy here for you..:roll:
Dr. Phil is an idiot too. Interpret that how you will. I know how I have interpreted it.... not in a way you'd like tho. ;)

This is rich.....TOO much light, OMG!
On the way home tonight (using my bright 80's) I saw a racoon (sic) sitting on the edge of the road with a sign that said "Where's Waldo"

Keep addin' lights there fella and you'll reach the point where they are more a hazard than help.

.... as far as brighter lights, they sure can be too bright and reflect those speed limit signs back at you!
:agree:+1

Do you have a link for where I could get some of those Piaa 4oooK Kevlin 55/119w bulbs?
Link to the PIAA 55=100 4000K bulbs

I even built an extra switch to the left of my CB cluster,So I can turn it off/on with my left thumb.
:congrats:
That is an excellent installation! Nice work!

You betcha Waldo, I'll keep that in mind.......TOO MUCH LIGHT, TOO MUCH light, TOO much light, too much....l-i-g-h-t, tooooo, mmmuch, l-i,i,i,g,h,t,zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Man oh man. I go away for a few days and this technical discussion about the pros and cons of different headlight setups gets all personal, heated and angry! Are all you snow bound people out there going nuts because you can't ride in all that white stuff? Geez. Chill out...literally!

Well I guess if there is no such thing as too much light, I may as well just run with my high beams on all the time. That wouldn't be too smart though, would it?

Hey, it's your logic, not mine.
I have been running HID's in my wing since I purchased it. I have yet to be flashed at by oncoming traffic nor have I been bothered by area law enforcement. I am mindful of having the lights adjusted "down" just a little. In fact, with the high beams on, I don't get flashed at.

I am concerned about light scatter enough so that I had a friend drive the wing with me in my vehicle driving towards the bike. Not a problem.
I find that interesting. With my stock headlights and EC foglights, even I get flashed now and then unless I have the adjustment at midpoint. How is it that a supposedly brighter light doesn't get flashed at all even though you say yours have a farther reach? Does that mean my stock lights are brighter than your HIDs?

LarryM..While I didn't conduct a scientific study as to the validity of this research myself on my own bike.
I can see how the article from the "Are you losing your sight society" below could happen.

BTW: I found this on the Internet so it must be true.

When this study was conducted using different colored Goldwings. It was found that on coming vehicles were quite disturbed when they came upon Illusion Blue Goldwings.

The Study found that most vehicle owners when questioned, felt they were experiencing a "Blue Meanie Attack" from the Beatles Yellow Submarine" movie from their youth.:22yikes:
As a result they said that they started flashing their headlights at any Illusion Blue Goldwings they came across while out riding in an attempt to say "Back off you Blue Meanie" :eek:4:

When I think about it,I often wondered why I never get flashed-And now you know the reason why.

Hope this helps your confusion Buddy.

You gotta look at the smilies from time to time......

Some folks don't get the "bustin' b*lls" part of these discussions. Few females ever understand it because they don't have any! :joke:
